My sad day was brightened yesterday by courting visitors

On my smoke break (about 11 AM) at the preschool yesterday, I heard some really pretty call and response chirping going on. I looked up and saw several pairs of an unidentified bird flying from tree to tree above me. I wasn't sure what they were, but I knew they'd be easy to identify. The males had pale red on their faces and breasts, while the females were all brownish. Yesterday afternoon, I had a play date with a former girlfriend. We're on BFF status--we get along well. We sat by her pool, drank wine, and caught up. She's having problems with her current boyfriend (maybe I'll do a post about that), and we discussed relationships and other things. And guess who came to visit us? Oh, those are House Finches, she said casually. She was even kind enough to send me some pictures when I got home. I'll post them here. Later in the evening, a male duck waddled right between us, enjoying our conversation. After work, I'm going to Google whether they (house finches) are faithful for an entire breeding season. My hunch is that they are. Has nature lifted your spirits recently?

Their call-and-response songs were really pretty too.

@Butterfingers I didn't hear or see them today, though.

Oh yes, the House Finch males are all dressed up for the mating season, along with the bright yellow Goldfinches and many others. The songs in the air are great to hear.

Sounds good. I just planted some corn and sunflowers. I have to visit Home Depot for more seeds.

@TheHorse I planted out the cucumbers and zuccinis I started indoors. I also started another row of beans, and some geranium cuttings.

We get a bunch of these guys too - whatever they are called. We started putting up our make shift bird feeders in the trees (adding to all the plates/bowls on the ground) . . . I love seeing all the visitors !

@TheHorse If you can't hang up feeders, would the plate/bowl thing be ok? Our hanging ones hide in our lemon tree.

I do too. I may "re-activate" my hummingbird feeder, even though the management frowns upon bird feeders at my apartment complex.

Today it seems to have. The sun is out, and it doesn't appear to be to hot. I'll take it whatever the case maybe.

What wonderful looking birds, I don't remember if we had these birds in Latvia or not but there were all kinds of little birds like this one I took once just sitting on the road in front of me, Here in Florida birds have started morning choruses and there are all kind in different colors and the fly around the tops of the palm trees,

I love to bird watch. Those are great pictures. I would love to be visited by a duck. We used to have two mallards.

Me too. The courting and sparking birds were not out during my smoke break today.
