"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" a crazy law?

The Taleon Law. Since I was very young I have been hearing this phrase, obviously in my youth, I did not give it so much importance, and then over the years I have understood its full meaning. Even before I thought that they were the words of Jesus and I am sure that many people do so, they assume that since it is a biblical phrase, it is already pronounced or endorsed by him.
Jesus was openly opposed to this law, with its teachings, and in contrast posed “Do not confront the one who offends you. On the contrary, if one of them slaps you on the right cheek, present the other; Whoever wants to sue you to take off your tunic, give him the cloak as well ... "
What's your opinion about it? I am one of those who thinks that if that law were applied today, this would be a one-eyed world.
