Everyone, give me a virtual hug, still panicking

Everyone I nearly had a full blown panic attack a few hours ago. I know for a fact God protected me and my husband and son. Here is what happened. Are you ready for this? My husband was just about to leave for work, when he walked in to our guest bedroom to get something. On top of the book case was a medium length black snake!!! Luckily I never saw it. My husband told me and I ran out of the house into the driveway nearly screaming. My son and my husband was able to scoop it up into an old trash can we have that has a secure lid. My son is in the process now of driving it to a woody spot to release it. Anyone who knows me knows how scared of snakes that I am. How it got in to our house, I don't know. This has never happened to us before. I am still shaking. But, I know if I had seen it, I would have had a much worse panic attack. I'm so grateful that I was not here alone. I'm so thankful for my husband and son. I'm so grateful for Jesus Christ protecting me.

I have friends who are terrified of snakes, one is on mylot, so I can empathize. Just remember though that snakes tend to follow their prey so maybe it was chasing a mouse or rat or some other small kritter. I'm glad it wasn't poisonous

I did think about that, a possible critter it was after.

I'm not keen on snakes. Once froze as I was walking along a dark path as I saw a huge snake. Eventually I worked out it was a hosepipe!

But I thought snakes are rare and certainly not venomous in Europe.

Here is a huge virtual hug for you, I understand your fear, as I got a squirrel playing on my piano, a few years ago, I was petrified as I was alone. I phoned the protection service and a guy came and got it and put a new net on the chimney outside as apparently it has come down the fireplace.

Oh my goodness a squirrel. They can be mean. My son works in Lowe's and because they sell "feed" , there are squirrels that eat it and hide in the rafters and if an employee encounters them and tries to shoo them off, they get all territorial and start squawking. Have you heard a squirrel squawking?

Omg! I’m covered in goosebumps right now reading this. I would have run out of the house screaming my head off, too. Thank goodness your husband and son were there to get rid of it. How gross! I’m terrified of snakes, too, and would not be able to enter that room for weeks! I hope your husband can figure out how it got into the house and check to make sure it didn’t have babies - not that I want to scare you more. Perhaps they lay eggs outdoors somewhere.

I feel anxious still when I walk in to that room. Yes, I thought about the possibility of it having laid eggs somewhere. There is a powder called Snake Guard to sprinkle out side. It has chemicals that snakes don't like. It's available at Lowes. My husband bought some.

@LeaPea2417 I don’t blame you! Thanks for the info about Snake Guard. I’m going to buy all Lowe’s has to offer. I almost stepped on a huge curled up snake in my flip flops several years ago. I saw it at the last minute and jumped over it screaming. I didn’t go outside for 3 weeks. I swear! And then only on the sidewalk and driveway.

Anytime I vacation in Florida I will think to myself how it would be so nice to live at the beach. Then I think about alligators. I also then think about Hurricanes. Then I change my mind.

Although I have no fear of snakes, seeing one inside my house would have given me a heart attack for sure, so I can totally understand your panic attack. Just be glad it was caught before it could slither away!

Friend, get a big virtual hug from me. I understand what happened to you, I suffered from ophidiophobia, from a very young age and thank God I was able to overcome it and they no longer cause as horrible an effect on me as before. Even so, when I see them near me, I put myself on alert and try to control them. Thank God you didn't even get to see it, because it would have been worse.
