When quiting isn't an option

I've had many times in my life when I reached a point where I wanted to quit, to give up, to change direction. Sometimes this is a good thing, (Quitting smoking, getting out of bad relationships), but mostly it isn't. A long time ago, I came to the conclusion that for success in life, that the only time someone really fails is when they quit. Yes, there may be setbacks, and yes there may be major obstacles to overcome. The funny thing is that I have found, is if I keep working towards the goal, it will happen. Maybe not as quickly as we had hoped. Maybe not in the same form as we had envisioned. But somehow, I'll find a way to make it happen. I'm thinking about this because I've got a few projects here at home that must get completed before June 2, (the date for my second total knee replacement) and we are having to travel to California for a week. So, I have very little time left. It would be so easy to put all these projects aside and simply not do them. Yet, I will not do that. My wife isn't capable of doing them, she has her own medical issues. Before that date I need to Repair a patio, put up shelves in the kitchen, and paint the kitchen and hallway.) It's a lot to do when I can only stand for short periods. I will get it done in time. Wish me luck, --- I'm not getting it done sitting here talking about it. You are right when it is something you truly believe in you need to stick with it, no matter how difficult it may become.

This is the only way to live a life, in my opinion. I suppose it would be easier to sit back and wait for my recovery to be complete before I take on such tasks but It isn't who I am.

So much to do, so little time! Hope you manage to get it all done. Maybe if you have a chair with wheels and a long-handled roller you could do some painting while sitting down??

It is a possibility, but the leg will be pretty much immobile for the first couple of weeks. I doubt I will feel much like painting either. But we shall see -- hopefully, I get it done and it won't be a concern.

That's a lot of work and I wish you well in completing it on time. I never acquired the skills to do a lot of those jobs, so we end up hiring someone.
