Nasi lemak is one of the most popular breakfast in Malaysia. Basically, it's rice cook with coconut milk and to be eaten with side dishes and sambal. For breakfast today I made nasi lemak pandan. Pandan is the green leaves more common in Southeast Asia. We use it for aroma, flavor and natural colouring, hence the green rice like in the image. For side dishes, I just go with omelet, anchovies and cucumber. I also made chicken sambal, the spicy condiment to eat with the rice. It's a bit spicy as I didn't add onion to the sambal. Image is mine

We can get the green from the pandan leaves. But need to use quite a lot. It's one of the natural food colouring that is widely use here.

Bring some with you when you come through the door and I'll try it. Uhm... if you mean hot spicy, please warn me about that one. I can't have hot spicy. (Pretty will get upset if you try to feed me any of that. She doesn't like to hear me crying when I'm in the bathroom. )

@prinzcy I've only had Mexican hot and spicy. That certainly made me cry! A friend served it to us but didn't warn us before we tried it. Pretty told them not to come back if they thought that was funny!

Only the anchovies? ha ha. Usually we would mix sambal with the anchovies. Unfortunately, Lil Bro doesn't like spicy food. So I would serve them separately.

@prinzcy I'm not also with hot and spicy food and the pandan rice aroma is not also appealing to me but it looks good. I like the color.

I think it's a common plant on where we are. Though it's interesting to know the name is the same.

Wow nasi lemak. I often hear it in upin ipin cartoons ^_^ , but have never seen how nasi lemak is. How does rice taste with pandan flavor? is it the same as nasi uduk in indonesia?
