My Poppy is back home from hospital....

I'm a few days late giving this update as well as behind on other things I wanted to share. Will do those posts later. But here is the update regarding my Poppy for those who had been reading. He is back home with Nanny. To which we are all really happy about as well as nervous. My dad and I are hoping that my Nan will just accept some outside help to look after Pop. What a random and stressful ride that was! He was in hospital for....like 20 days or almost 20 days. We honestly thought that was it for Poppy. Between his stomach bug and issues with his Angina medication and the dementia, we didn't know what was going on but thought the outcome would be the worst. His dementia though.... On the day my dad picked Pop up to take him home, my Pop went to another room while my dad stood in the kitchen talking to Nan. Pop came out again and said "Oh hey Bruce is here!" Like all excited his son was there. He had no recollection that my dad just picked him up and brought him home. It's really sad. So much worse. My Nanny has said that Poppy has been quite angry past couple days. He is still sleeping more than normal and eating is still not the best. No idea if that is still connected to dementia as apparently some patients begin to sleep more and eat less. Anyway, that was the update. Thank you very kindly for reading. I will be back on later as I know I have a lot of notifications to tend to.

@marlina My Nan did say that if she agreed with her and Poppy's doctor to get some help, all she had to do was ask and he would try to push their names forward to get help quicker. But whether or not she's put her name down, I don't know. She's being quite stubborn really. I understand why but she needs to try not to be.

At least your Poppy recognizes people for the moment. I am sorry he is quite angry, this has to do with dementia. I hope your Nan will accept to have some help. Take care.

That is nice to hear that your poppy had recovered from his illness. I guess you are given more time to be with him and spend more time bonding with him. Take this opportunity to be with him. I guess with his dementia there is nothing you could do with it since it's part of growing old and you just need to understand him and be more patient about it as this is some kind of a permanent thing already. He may from at times go out of it but it's hard to catch these moments.

@VivaLaDani13 I never had experienced a person with dementia. My mom passed away quite young and my grandparents didn't reach that point and have passed too.

@rsa101 All very true, thank you very kindly for taking the time to read and express your care and advice. I'm always very patient with him. I'm a pretty patient person anyway but especially for something like this being, he is my family member and he cannot control what is happening to him. It's so heartbreaking. Thank you again. Always appreciate you commenting.

I hate dementia, because you basically lose your loved one twice (once when they forget you, and once when they die). Glad your poppy is out of the hospital, though. I never get rest in the hospital, so I’m glad I’ve never had a prolonged stay.

@FourWalls You're very accurate with that statement. Not that I've experienced the second part of the loss but this was something I was thinking about when seeing him in hospital. It's awful. Thank you kindly. It is hard to get proper rest in hospital for sure!

It's good to see that your granddad is able to recollect some of his memories. With ample care, he will possibly get cured a lot.

@Sojourn Thank you kindly for reading and commenting. I truly wish I could agree with you but I'm afraid there is no cure or going back to how it was. Dementia only continues to get worse and unfortunately doesn't get better. He hasn't recollected any memories I'm afraid.

I hope the dementia will subside soon, it's okay if the disease is caused by old age, this is required for us to be patient. surely one day the dementia will subside, but if it's still like this, hopefully you can always be by his side to accompany him
