I have an Asparagus patch in the garden and want to make it bigger, but don't know how to propogate to grow more asparagus. It looks like it might spread a little on it's own, but is there a way to make it spread more quickly and in different locations?

We have asparagus from previous owners that could be 30+ years old. One bush grows berries by the end of the season. The berries are red and form an enclosure around a pocket of black seeds. The other bush produces yellow/lt-green hanging pods but no red berries. What are those yellow/lt-green handing pods? They are small, about the size of your pinky fingernail.

I grow asparagus in my garden. i did not know that you should till the seeds in the fall. i don't know if I can try that now, i think the ground is pretty frozen. i will definitely do that next year. thanks for the insight.
