Today, June 6th, is the 33rd anniversary of breaking my smoking addiction

I was smoking on average 3 packs a day! At today's prices, that is $7665 I get to keep in my pocket each year.
Understand that when I quit, the prices were more like 1.50 per pack. I rationalized my heavy usage as I had a very stressful job and family life. While both these were true, they were in fact, nothing but excuses to justify my throwing money to the tobacco industry, destroying my lungs - and making those around me sick. (My youngest daughter had chronic ear problems that magically went away after I quit.)
I guess the old saying about ex-smokers being the least tolerant of other smokers' habits is very true. It is for me at least. I cannot stand to be anywhere near cigarette smoke. It stinks, and that disgusting smell permeates anything porous that the smoke touches.
It is still true, smokers have every legal right to use cigarettes, cigars, and chews, but please stand downwind from me.

I don't know about feeling proud. Happy, absolutely. But I am also frustrated that I allowed myself to become addicted in the first place.
But I suppose I was subject to the norms of the times I grew up in. Peer pressure and a family that smoked opened doors that would better have remained closed.

Congratulations!
My dad stopped smoking after 61 years and said he felt better than he ever had before. (He smoked a pipe all his life.)
