I Got My First Vaccine Dose

Wow! Barely slept Wednesday night. I was so scared about getting the vaccine. Because I have fibromyalgia I am already uncomfortable. I was more worried about side effects than actually getting a needle (though the "sore shoulder" people complained about worried me as I have arthritis in both my shoulders). So I didn't sleep very well. My anxiety was high..
I was told to drink lots of water beforehand. LOTS of water. And I did. 4 750ml bottles of water to be exact. What I wasn't counting on was standing in line for an hour. The lady in line behind me said she walked by the clinic every day (which was a local rec centre arena) and there was never a line that long. But the line always moved and once inside the actual arena things moved swiftly. I think my focus on having to go to the bathroom took away all my anxiety. When I sat down for my needle she asked how I was. I said I had to go to the bathroom. She said I had better go because I was still going to have to wait for 15 minutes after and they wouldn't like me leaving the area by myself. I asked if I would lose my place and she said no and let me leave my stuff with her.
So, barely felt the needle. Felt a little weird afterwards while I was sitting for 15 minutes but wasn't sure that it wasn't all in my head, or because I was hungry.
I am very grateful to the person on here who told me to drink lots of water. I really think that made a big difference. Apart from a sore shoulder for two days I had absolutely no side affects that I could point to the vaccine. I have fibro and it has been hot and humid here so the fatigue and headache I felt could have been due to that and not the vaccine. My daughter had hers the same day and she said she was feeling pretty tired, but she always says that and... heat and humidity.
My husband gets his first dose later this month (he thought the email to schedule his appointment was junk mail and didn't open it ). I get my second dose mid-September. I know I will have no fear next time and will again drink lots of water. My husband was hoping to go see his family in September as his father has not been doing wealth health-wise. He just turned 88. But unless they move the dates up, he won't get his second dose until October.
But we are planning a trip to the tropics early December as long as there are no set-backs with this pandemic.

I have heard nightmares of so many people being in bed for 3 days with flu like symptoms. I have never had a flu shot in my life because my father got very sick after having one. I really thought being as sensitive as I am I would have side effects. Again, perhaps all the water I drank helped.

Glad you had your first dose. That's quite a story you shared.
But the second dose must be a month after, ain't it? September is a long way.

I have been informed they might move it up. Someone on Twitter who also has fibromyalgia said she was emailed to move her second dose up. It's supposed to be at least 6 weeks. I'm guessing the schedule is full as Canada has been behind with the vaccines but are starting to catch up.

@eileenleyva When I checked in they asked me why I was getting the vaccine. I thought it was weird they asked that question. I said I have fibromyalgia and I would like to travel.

@patgalca In your case, I think it best to clarify your condition. The ones with comorbidity is always given priority.

Congratulations on the first shot...
I had no problems with the first shot except for being very tired for two day. My daughter got her first shot the same day and had a stomachache, headache and her arm was sore. One month later we got the second shot. I had an upset stomach and couldn't sleep for two days afterwards. My daughter had no symptoms other than she couldn't sleep for two days, either. We had the Moderna shots.
I hope you don't have any problems with the second shot.

My vaccine side effects were very similar to a fibro flare... so, familiar and manageable.
I'm surprised that your 2nd doses are so far apart!

@spiderdust I heard 6 weeks... but I'm still scheduled a lot later than that.

@patgalca Yeah, I thought they could only be 21 days in between.

I'm happy you did so well. I'm glad you're doing what you feel is right for you, too. That's what matters in the end.

Congrats on getting your shot, and welcome to the club.
I am waiting for them to allow me to book my second shot earlier then it is orginally booked for.
I drank lots of water before and had no side effects except the arm that I had the injection in turned really red, right down to the wrist. It happened after I left the clinic, and has lightened some, but not completely.
