How Often Should I Post on myLot?

United States
June 9, 2021 5:07pm CST
Being new here (just joined yesterday), I am still learning the ropes of how this community works. Someone mentioned that I have posted a lot since joining. Is that bad? I used to belong to another website that was similar to this. It didn't do very well and shut down. and I have often thought how much I have missed connecting with other people from all over the world. So I got excited when I found myLot. I guess that's one reason I have posted so much in the past 24 hours. Also, I figured if I post about what interests me, other myLot members with the same interests will find me easier. And we can follow each other, right? So, how often should I post on myLot? Is too much posting annoying to people? How often do all of you post?

While it's okay to post as often as you like, I like to spread my reading between lots of friends I've made here so I usually only read perhaps two posts from one person before moving on. It's great that you feel so comfortable here but maybe, after the first flush of enthusiasm, you might settle down a bit. lol I think a couple of posts a day is about right but that's just my opinion. And a big welcome to myLot! It's a great forum for making friends from all around the world.

It depends on why you joined. The more you post and establish yourself, the more you'll make. You just need to post as often or as little as you're comfortable with. Feel to look around at other discussions, before posting something. Who knows, someone might've already posted a discussion about a topic. And, you can jump into that discussion and strike up a conversation. I personally reply and comment more than I start discussions. But, interactions are interactions all the same.

Okay. I can't seem to find things by topic though and I think I saw they disabled that. So finding other discussions about a certain topic is a challenge. Or am I missing something?

You should keep in mind that starting a discussion is not suffice. You could post as many discussions as you want in a day. However, your discussions should be such that others could respond and when they respond you should post your comments in such a manner, which leave a scope for further interaction. If you just comment on a response - "Thanks you, I like you idea or I agree with you" that will not generate more comments. If you start say five discussions in a day, then make sure that you post your comments on the responses received. It is not necessary that you have to comment on a response immediately. You could do it as per your convenience. Also, you should respond to discussions started by others, this kind of reciprocation will help you get more responses to your discussions. All the best.

@Kouponkaren It is good to hear that you are trying your best to comment on the responses received from others. More you comment, more interaction is likely to take place. You should respond to discussions started by others.

Very detailed information. Thank you. I am trying to keep up with the responses and comments each time I sign into the site. It is good that there is an update near our names so I can go immediately there and respond to those who have left comments.

This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

I post once in two days now. Then I respond to others everyday. I think it depends on how much time you have to be here.

@Kouponkaren You earn only when you get responses. For that you have to comment on others posts too as much as possible. Posting does not by itself earn here.

You can post as often as you like. I have not posted for a few days now as I want more interactions with our fellow Mylotters. I said to myself that I will only post when my last discussion has reached 20 responses. I thought that what is the use of keeping on writing a discussion when I get only a few responses.

@Kouponkaren It is indeed a challenge for me to do it. I usually get 20 responses on my post. I am not motivated to post a discussion when I spend 3 hours on Mylot and only get 10 responses although I interact to many mylotters. Yes, this is a kind of rule I have given to myself. Thank you and have a nice weekend.

@thelme55 Hm, that's an interesting way to decide when to post next. And a challenge as well. If I were to do that, I would have to make sure each post I create is worthy of at least 20 responses. Which is actually probably a good rule of thumb anyway!

Ultimately you can post as often as you would like. But bear in mind that how you get paid is not by what you post or the comments you leave. You are paid on responses and interactions back to you. For example, you write a post. You get nothing for writing the actual post. But you DO get paid if someone leaves a comment. As well, let's say you read a post and leave a comment. You are not paid for the comment you leave, but for a comment someone leaves to the comment you have left. At least that's the way I understand it. Interaction is what you get paid for. Granted, our activity here is not all about the money. But it's part of it. So, to maximize your time and fun here it is best to give some space between posts so that people can find it and interact with it, and to engage heavily with other's posts. @myklj999 can probably shed more light on whether or not what I said above is true, or can better explain how it works. He's sort of like the resident MyLot guru around here. Some days I think MyLot would be wise to have him on the payroll. lol

@Kouponkaren You will eventually get the hang of it. I think the best advice I can offer you is don't worry about the money. Focus on interacting as much as you can. The money will fall into place, and so will the fun.

What a very thorough response. And a bit confusing regarding what counts toward payment. I will read it a few more times and try to remind myself of it. Thanks.

Posting new discussions is not my thing. I usually jump into other myLotters' discussion and interact with people there. Interaction is the main thing here. And no, it is not a bad thing to post a lot on myLot.

Welcome to mylot Karen. It depends on you totally you can post "n" number of posts here. But the question is would you be able to comment back to the responses you will get on those posts. If you can manage it then you can but if you feel you will not be able to do that then you should not.

This site has a lot of people who post often. We all have different thoughts, different amounts of time to post, and different lives, so there are always interesting topics and conversations. Not everyone is going to post something that is interesting to everyone here, it's just not possible. I comment on posts I find interesting, when I have the time to do so, as my time is hit and miss. You aren't annoying, keep on doing what you're doing, you're fine. Have a great day!
