Wanting to be number one, a behavior sometimes reproached. Do you like being No. 1?

Many people criticize those people who always want to be number 1, the first, the best in everything they do. For my part, I think that this should be the behavior to follow, I say this because it is the way that you are always in the group of people with the best performance. It is obvious that for various reasons you will not be able to reach that No. 1 place, but if you aim there, you will always have good scores and the desire to work harder to reach that goal. This search to be the best, must be done for their own satisfaction, not trying to prove anything to anyone or feel more than others, we should assume that they are also in the same search.
There are people who seek to get that first place, but in a dishonest way, bypassing the others, cheating and using all kinds of tricks to achieve it. I think that is the attitude that should not be accepted, it is despicable. Those who have reached the top must be imitated, trying as hard as they, dedicating time and effort to the maximum to achieve it.
I have always liked being number one and I have achieved it many times, it feels incredible satisfaction, it means defeating yourself, who in my opinion is our first rival. I have obtained the first place in some degrees of study, in activities related to my work, in sports, and that is why it has occurred to me to write about it, my last competition has been a basketball tournament in which I have had the champion basket, the satisfaction has been immense, already in my 60 years, of course competing with people of that age group. Although I know that the number of times that I have not finished in the first place is much higher, I do not care, because I know that if I have competed I have always tried my best.
Have you felt the satisfaction of being Number One? what do you think about it dear friend?

@CuriousGab I am sure that you have been number one in many opportunities and you have not realized it. Besides I'm sure too, that there will be something you are very good at, but you don't care much if you are number one or not.

That is what I do but never succeed.
I always prefer to sit on the last bench in college but I'm always the teacher's prey

Giving best with a sense of a satisfaction is more necessary than succeeding.
It's not necessary to be always no.1.We should try to reach that place but enjoying the process while competing is important

You are very right my friend, but one thing does not take away from the other, you must have the satisfaction of working hard, that is undeniable, it is the duty to be otherwise it would not make much sense, but if you are looking for the highest standard, number one and you do it, the satisfaction will be much higher. It will mean that your effort reached the maximum performance.

We should never stop working hard for desired result,we should keep improving ourselves daily.
So we should not be satisfied and stop working on ourselves .but satisfaction should be there when you gave it your all. When one fought with all his strength. He should be satisfied because he tried his level best regardless of the result.
But tomorrow one should get ready again for another match with full energy.

What you are saying isn't necessarily that you want to be number one, but you set high standards for yourself, and without comparing yourself to others, you try to attain those high standards.
As a natural consequence of hard work, you have had the satisfaction of attaining your goals and from time to time, have excelled not only your own best, but others as well.
There certainly is nothing wrong with hard work and enjoying the satisfaction of it. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says:
'that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.'
Like everything else in life, though, even our best quality can be taken to an extreme, thus becoming negative. Or, the motivation may be a problem, not the actual effort.
A nice balance is to work hard, but maintain a reasonable perspective, a reasonable view of oneself as it recommends in Phillipians 2:3,4
'Do nothing out of contentiousness or out of egotism, but with humility consider others superior to you, as you look out not only for your own interests, but also for the interests of others'
And if we think about it, there is always someone who does something better than us.
Less stressful too, not feeling we have to be the best at everything.

I totally agree with you, my friend Sulysni. You remind me of a famous phrase by the poet Ralph W. Emerson which says "Every man I know is superior to me in some way. In that sense, I learn from him."

So it should be. Always seek to be number one and if you do not achieve it, it does not matter, do not get frustrated, but keep trying to improve.

I do my best in everything I do. It's rare when I get the first prize but when I do, it's an awesome feeling. There are two Scriptures that speak to this.
1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (KJV)
Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (KJV)
When you work for God, you will always get the highest prize.

You are right, when you work for our lord, we will always be rewarded. In this case it will always be a first place. In any case, you always have to work very hard to be among the first. Hopefully we would all get tied for first place.

It is always nice to be number 1, although I don't go out of my way to achieve it. There are generally people who are far better than you.

I'm the kind of person who does not think or care to be always #1, 1 just always do the best I can in anything I do and if I come out number one I just think of it as added bonus and thank God for it and give him the glory. Some people always want to be number one but step on other people's toes to achieve it so what good is that?

As I said in my comment, friend Louievil, I find it despicable to obtain first place through non-honorable practices or through tricks, in the same way I say that this end should not be sought to show off to others, but for personal satisfaction. For me, seeking to be number one is a way of forcing myself to work hard to achieve it.
