What, were you expecting the Police’s “King of Pain”? Spoiler alert: no, that didn’t make the list. But this did! From the “concerts I have been to” division, I present today’s song with “king” in the title. #9: King Tut - Steve Martin and the Toot Uncommons The “Toot Uncommons” were the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. For those who don’t know, the NGDB’s John McEuen’s brother, William, was Steve Martin’s manager. And yes, I actually saw Steve Martin in concert, in March 1978. I guess I should clarify, as a stand-up comedian, given that he’s been touring for the past few years as a bluegrass musician (a sometimes member of the Steep Canyon Rangers). So enjoy this flashback to the 70s! King Tut Written by Steve Martin Recorded by Steve Martin and the Toot Uncommons Released as a single, 1978 Got a condo made-a stone-a!
Steve Martin performs his funky musical parody "King Tut," which satirizes the popularity of the King Tut exhibit. Aired 05/22/78#SNLSubscribe to SNL: https:...

I remember I heard this song on the radio before seeing him perform it on SNL. I didn't know it was Steve Martin at first. Didn't know about the involvement of the NGDB.

Thanks for that. I forgot how elaborate the set-up was, especially the golden saxman.

I saw that skit on SNL. He was in the audience of a play I went to a couple of years ago, but hid during intermission unlike the two other actors I bumped into in the lobby. I did get his photo, the big stinker!
