With Summer around the corner it's time to end my trivia series of favorite springtime songs with this final edition of tunes today.
As spring turns to those "Lazy Days" of summer it's time to "Take It Easy," cool off, and enjoy a more restful activity. I like to do some bird watching under my deck umbrella as different species of birds gather at my feeder. For me that's a chillin' way to pass the time!
So, to get us in the mood let's enjoy this video tune by Spanky and Our Gang called "Lazy Day," as we figure out just what "bird songs" are my favorites...
Now don't those 60's clothes make a statement! Groovy Alright, time for our trivia quiz.
Name that tune and the artists who recorded them- Whodunnit?
(Remember words in quotations can provide hints to the music trivia answers)
1. This 1972 song was a top twenty hit for this musical "soft rock duo." They are also known for their hits "Summer Breeze" (1972), "Diamond Girl" (1973), and "Get Closer" (1976), each of which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Fun fact: This duo played in a band in the early 60's called The Champs which later included band member Glenn Campbell. In 1963, they left the Champs to form a band named Glen Campbell and the GCs. This duo later became members of the Bahá'í Faith and would sometimes incorporate passages from the religion's scriptures into their song lyrics. The title of this song is the same as a "little tiny bird" which is "only 3-5 inches in length." It's one of my favorite birds to see although at my house it's a rare occurrence. These birds have one of the "highest metabolism's" of all animals – a necessity to support the rapid beating of their wings. They "love sugar," needed to fuel their flight. In the lyrics the singers praise this "bird in their song and title." If you know the bird you've got the tune's title!
-Do you know the name of this musical duo and their bird titled tune?
2. This American rock and roll and R&B singer is best known for this #2 tune released in 1958. The song has a unique start to it, with "musical instruments" playing the sound "tweedly deedly dee... tweet, tweet" and using that chorus throughout the song. That singing "sound" is the voice of a "bird that has a reddish-orange breast." The "King of Pop Michael Jackson" also reached #2 on the charts with his recording this song. The song is upbeat and never slows down with versus like "He rocks in the treetop..." "Hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song." This singer also wrote and recorded "Little Bitty Pretty One" in 1957, later popularized by Thurston Harris. Some fun facts: This song was featured in the 1986 film Stand By Me, starring Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O'Connell. The B-side of this single was a song called "Over And Over," which in 1965 became a US #1 hit for The Dave Clark Five when they covered it.
-Do you know the name of this singer and his rockin' song?
3. The band used a "mighty bird" for their song title on this tune from 1976. The bird they used is the same as the "post office logo" which is also the "national bird of the United States." This song reached #2 on the record charts. The artist used a synthesizer instrumental section at the beginning of this song called "Space Intro," before launching this track "into flight." This band had another hit song whose title is also "about flight." Not a bird but a "Jet Airliner." This blues rock band has had many personnel changes over the years and one member, Boz Scaggs, went on his own to find solo success. Other hit songs by this group are "The Joker, Rock n Me" (both #1's), and "Take The Money And Run." Part of the band's name is the same as a "famous lite beer," whose slogan is "tastes great less filling." Or you could say it's "_____________ time!"
Do you know the name of this San Francisco band named for it's leader and his bird titled song?
4. Bonus- The song "Take It Easy" was recorded by Jackson Browne but was also recorded by this bird named band. Do you know the band I'm talking about?
Ok, "the early bird catches the worm" so let's catch some song and artist answers. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as The Four Tops would say in song, "Reach Out And I'll Be There."
*Note: I will be taking a summer hiatus from my weekly music trivia quizzes and will return with some new ones after Labor Day. Don't worry, I will still "chime in" with some musical posts when the melody hits me.
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! As the music group The Happenings would say, "See You In September."
