All the guesses that were made when I announced this countdown, and nobody picked this song! I’m crushed. And you’re going to think, “Oh, yeah, that one!” Yeah, this one. Here’s today’s song with “queen” in the title.
#3: Ballad of a Teenage Queen - Johnny Cash
Of course, I’ll give everyone a pass. This song was out before I was born. You wouldn’t think I’d go back that far, right? (Ah, come on, y’all know me much better than that! )
That’s right, it’s Man in Black time. Of course, this was back before the all-black clothes. This was back in the days of rockabilly, when he was racking up as man rock hits as country hits. In fact, Cash was the first person who was inducted into both the Country AND Rock halls of fame as a performer. (A number of Country hall of famers were also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Cash, but as “early influences” and not strictly based on their performances.)
So enjoy this great Cash hit from early in his career, complete with a happy ending.

I think I told you this when you mentioned meeting him before, but a DJ I knew told me that Johnny Cash was one of the most humble, down-to-earth individuals he ever had the pleasure of interviewing.
