Good morning beautiful people, today I'm feeling sad, depressed and lonely. I find myself in a situation were my kids really don't respect me it's like i'm a joke to them when I correct them or giving them instructions. As a single mom I do find myself in a very difficult situation at the moment financially. Do you think respect go along with money? I sure feel that way. Any advise?

sometimes society makes us feel if we have a lot of money we will have a ot of respect too, i can't say that's true or wrong. But for your kids case, they should respect you as their parent. I hope everything will get better for you

Thank you, I think when they get older they tend to go where it's suites them and were they will get more... Sudden changes in behavior towards a parent is heart braking.

@nzlz123 I'm planning on doing that later today... How to start the conversation to get them to listen and don't think it's a joke? I have to plan carefully

No dear. Just try to calm your mind. Try to think what went wrong. Try to think from their perspective. Try to have open conversation with them. It will help

I don't have kids so I don't know what you're going through. What age are your kids? Sometimes kids go through a stubborn stage at a certain age

Maybe change your style of disciplining them.. it is not the money that matter..

Now the world over respect goes along with money . I am facing the same problem. But we need not get depressed. Leave everything to Jesus Christ and don't expect anything from anybody except peace from our Lord and Saviour. He is our citadel.

I don't think respect and money are combined, it's all about raising them and having fun with them. These kids are more intelligent

If your kids are disrespecting you they will do so with or without you having money.

I was a single mom for a while and what I found was that my children respected me more when I followed through with what I said I would do, especially in terms of discipline. Like if I said they had to clean their rooms in the morning or we couldn't go to the beach in the afternoon, if they didn't follow through, we didn't go to the beach. That was hard for me, and I messed up in the beginning, but I learned they wouldn't respect what I said anymore if I didn't actually follow through on it. I didn't have much money as a single mom, and their Dad had a lot more than I did, but I didn't feel they disrespected me for it.

That's not consistent, respect must be shown to older people whether they have money or not. Children should be taught courtesy early on
