Finally Standing Against Woke And Cancel Culture

Many people may think that the "woke" and "cancel culture" parties are in the majority. The fact is that they are not. And finally what has often been referred to as the "silent majority" have risen up and said no more at Randolph Middle School in New Jersey.
Whether or not this marks the beginning of a new movement of people tired of political correctness, tired of woke and cancel culture, and tired of rewriting history (or outright denying it), is yet to be seen. But in this microcosm example at this middle school in New Jersey clearly the majority spoke up and had their voices heard and at the same time caused the woke and cancel culture crowd to swiftly reverse course.
Essentially what had happened was that the board made a decision to change the Columbus Day holiday on their calendar to Indigenous People's Day.
After backlash from the Italian-American community the school board thought they would solve the problem by simply cancelling all holidays on the calendar and simply mark them as a Day Off.
The people said enough, with Ralph Contini of Unico National, an Italian-American service organization telling the board, "In your attempt to be woke, you've waken up the entire community of Randolph," he said. "We draw the line in the sand. You have overreached. Enough is enough."
And it's not just about Columbus Day in the larger picture of course. It is something that has outraged Americans across the country where parts of our heritage and history, where iconic figures and historical monuments, and sports teams are all being forced by a minority group of people to be cancelled, denied, and erased.
But clearly this was a boiling point, at least in Randolph. This was a reaction actually not uncommon at most people's dinner tables and family gatherings across America. This was just nearly the first time someone—in fact 400 people—stood up and actually said it out loud in a public forum, and said it directly to the people who cow tow to the pressures of the minority woke and cancel culture crowd.
I think it is high time we see more and more of this, and I do hope that the national attention Randolph has received inspires the silent majority to take more of a stand against this minority group of troublemakers and help to restore some sanity to what has become an almost ridiculous attack against our entire history, good or bad, and a mad hatter attempt to rewrite our stories and our history to fit some pie in the sky narrative of apology and denial.
I applaud Randolph for, at least in a small way, in a very small part of the country, allowing a guy like me to restore just a smidgen of faith back in this beautiful America I live in that lately has felt like a very bad and strange episode of the Twilight Zone.

I completely agree. I mean, what's wrong with people trying to rewrite history? That's not going to happen, and I'll stand with those trying to protect it.

I applaud him as well, and I hope everyone can stand up to this horrible abuse of values and power. I've also thought this is like the Twilight zone, hopefully everyone in the US will wake up soon. Good post.

I'm with you. If this vocal group gets their way we will soon be a Communist nation and won't know what hit us. This isn't about racial equality and equal opportunity. It's about trying to divide groups of citizens against each other to destroy the country. If these leftists succeed, no one of any race will have any rights left and we will have bigger issues to deal with than the names of streets and holidays. We will simply be trying to survive while the elites running the country live as they please.
As soon as statues began to topple and the riots started it reminded my of the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1970s. It was cancel culture at its fiercest. We are becoming what George Orwell wrote about. If we don't do something soon it will be too late.
My husband already went through this kind of revolution after WW2 in Yugoslavia. His family was almost killed for political reasons and spent time in jail. Now we have political prisoners who were rounded up after what happened at the Capitol in Washington. They have been denied due process. Yet Anitfa and BLM riot and burn buildings and attack police and if they go to jail at all they are released almost immediately. Maybe our politicians only care when they think they themselves are in danger. Our news media is silent about the thingsnow coming out about Jan. 6. Whether those who entered the Capitol broke in or were escorted is being debated. Videos are being withheld. Something appears to be rotten at the DOJ. Too many rumors. Too much propaganda. Too little access to facts and truth.

I read in the liberal Atlanta Constitution News Online in the past week that Cobb County Schools Georgia will not be teaching Critical Race Theory.

This is definitely a good thing. This convoluted nonsense does not need to be there to indoctrinate and brainwash our children. If I had kids I would not allow them to step into a public school regardless of the cost of putting them into a private school.

I think what it comes down to are straws. If it is not one thing being cancelled it is another and people are just sick and tired of it. If it is not broken, don't fix it. If the Redskins want to be called the Redskins, let them. If Quaker Oats wants to sell Aunt Jemima pancake syrup let them. And if someone wants to honor a confederate general, even if we happen to disagree with that part of our history, so be it.
We have no problem erecting a statue of a criminal with a book long record, who held a pregnant woman at gunpoint in front of her toddler son while her place was robbed...
What world have we become?

@porwest George Floyd was brutally murdered by police. I don't know why you keep bringing up his past. No matter what he may have done in the past--he was down on the ground, handcuffed, and saying "I can't breathe" while Chauvin's knee was on his neck. After he became unconscious and began having seizures Chauvin kept his knee there for 3 more minutes. THAT is why there is a statue of him. It isn't like people are all supportive of other parts of his past. He has become a symbol of police brutality against African-Americans.

@porwest I didn't say it didn't matter. But I am getting pissed about you continuously bringing up Floyd's past. He was cruelly and evilly killed by a police officer. What happened was absolutely outrageous.
I hope that the Floyd/Chavin thing helps to have policies and procedures changed and improved. I'm all for improvement.

Did you see this reaction to a Colorado mayor trying to ban the Pledge of Allegience?
Shane Fuhrman, the mayor of Silverton, Colorado, has banned his Board of Trustees and guests from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at public meetings.

You're right. Things have gotten out of hand. Pretty soon they will be teaching creationism in our schools instead of evolution. Not going to happen but just making a point.
