Why we miss our past?

No matter who you are, when you think about your past you become nostalgic. It is normal human behaviour. We don't really care about our present, but when the present becomes a past, it gives us nostalgia.
Why it happens? Why we can't really enjoy the present to the fullest and not think about the past?

What is that past? Everything which are in present will eventually become past. Why not we enjoy our present. Just a thought.
