Chicken Curry on Sunday

Sundays are for different meals. On Sundays we prefer to have some non vegetarian food. During week days it is generally vegetarian lunch and dinner. Today we will have chicken curry.
We buy roasted boneless chicken and then we prepare curry and make a dish of it. (The ready to eat roasted chicken is available here in shops). As the chicken pieces are already roasted, the dish takes less time to cook and it comes out very yummy and tasty.
If you make chicken dishes do you like to buy raw chicken and then your marinate it and cook it? or if available would you like to have roasted chicken to cook?

Buying a raw chicken and then cooking it as per your choice is a good option. If you buy the raw chicken you know its quality and freshness. As far as roasted chicken is concerned, when you cook it, it gets more tender and it takes less time in cooking.

@dpk262006 It does not take very long to cook a chicken and I always plan my meals in advance. When I bake a chicken I bake extra and I freeze for later the meat we do not use immediately.

@LadyDuck In comparison to goat meat (mutton) chicken takes less time to cook. It is good that you make advance preparations for your meals.

I buy chicken and then if not using it right away put in the freezer and when want to use it take it it and when cook it put it in the crockpot with potatoes and carrots. I do not believe I have had roasted chicken. It sounds interesting but for now I will stick to making it in the crockpot so can have gravy with it.

It is good to hear that you buy whole chicken and then you use it as per your convenience. I understand that when you mix it with potatoes and carrots, the chicken gets tender and tastier. May be roasted chicken is not available there. Chicken is generally roasted in big clay oven here by the sellers.

@Hannihar It is not easy to roast chicken at home, it takes time. You could continue to cook it in crockpot, the way you like it.

I totally buy ready made for it's easier. Ready made lasts me 2 days eating. I've made soup if mustard cabbage & lotus root flavored stick with shiitake mushrooms & seaweed. I buy cooked rice, about 2 scoops for 1.19 for brown rice & 1.39 for multigrain rice & .99 for white rice. Tofu dish flavored with soy too.

My husband gets raw chicken and then we go ahead with our own way of preparation..some need marination and others do not. Yesterday I made chicken curry for them and today with the leftover chicken I made some biryani that they will have now. And I am a vegetarian all the days of the week

Understandably, you buy raw chicken and then as per the need you marinate it and cook it. It is really commendable on your part that even though you do not eat non veg yourself, you cooked chicken curry for all of them and today you prepared biryani with left over chicken.

@Anqaya I think one hour is enough to marinate and to make it tender. I understand that when you are hungry you want to cook it sooner than later.
Did you use to eat non veg earlier?

Oh that looks so good! Do you prepare the curry from scratch (I admit I buy prepared curry pastes)? I like to buy raw chicken. I love the convenience of roasted chicken, but most of the time it is very salty tasting here, so I'd rather roast a whole chicken myself and use it as needed.

Yes, we prepare curry from the scratch. We mix diced tomatoes, diced onions and sliced ginger and garlic in water and some oil and cook it, till it looks good. We add water as per our taste (means who thick we want the gravy to be).
We generally do not use curry pastes but if you use it, it is fine, it saves your time.
I understand that it is better to roast chicken at home instead of buying a salty one from the market.

@much2say Yes, using whole spices such as cardamom, whole black pepper, bay leaf, black cardamom, cinnamon etc. make the curry more delicious and tasty.
Yes, you should learn it from your friend, then you could enjoy more delicious food.
We take home made bread 'chapati' with it. I hope you know about roti or chapati?

@dpk262006 I only know of one friend personally that actually roasts and grinds her own spices for curry . . . for Indian, Thai and Japanese curries. One day I will have to learn .
Your curry sounds delicious! Is it spicy? Do you have bread or rice with it?

If you live in such an area, where you could buy ready made chicken, then nothing wrong in that. To buy ready made chicken is good option, when you do not want to cook at home due to one reason or the other. It is good to hear that you enjoy non veg food on Sunday.

There are two three big outlets in our area, which sell ready to eat chicken product e.g. roasted chicken leg piece, chicken wings, chicken boneless, chicken tikka etc.. They could be simply heated in a pan or could be heated in a microwave oven or you could prepare a grave dish with these, as per your choice.
