People don't want to work anymore...

It is quite evident that the stimulus money has hurt businesses.
I went by Subway that is normally open today. There was a note that said: "due to not having enough employees, they had to start closing on Sundays." They said to "feel free to apply".
A couple of weeks ago...Chick-Fil-A was still only taking orders through the drive-thru. When I asked why...they too can not find enough people willing to work.
Now... Ruby Tuesdays are offering a $200 sign on bonus to get people to work. I was speaking to someone today about it while I was waiting for my order at Denny's.
Before the pandemic... There used to not be enough jobs for everyone. Now...businesses are so desperate for help, that they are actually paying people a bonus as an incentive to come work for them.
And with the $3,600 child tax credit that is about to be distributed per child by the IRS, this is only going to encourage many to stay unemployed.
I get that it was hard last year, and we needed the help. But now some of those same people are taking advantage of what we received; by deciding to not put forth an effort to return to work.
Apparently... What was meant to keep people afloat and from being homeless....ended up encouraging people not to work anymore.

I personally know several people who really, really want to go back to work--and they can't, because they cannot find any child care. All the day care places are full to the max with waiting lists.

I did not say everyone was like that... Some have legit reasons. But there are too many that just want to be lazy and let the government take care of them now.

@teresatrotter I know you didn't, no problems there. I was just telling about some people I knew personally, I meant no harm

It's what the leftists in our government want - for people to stay at home and rely on the government. But, these people who refuse to go back to work are not seeing that. All they can see is free money. But, that money isn't free. We are all going to have to pay the government back for that somehow. Perhaps the retirement age will go up to 75, or maybe even 80.

With money running low in retirement funds, you could be right that they would have to raise retirement age so there will be enough funds for everyone.

I know what you mean. Everywhere we turn, there's a now hiring sign or open interviews. While I agree people don't want to work, they are also starting to realize that the jobs that are in demand, aren't worth the time and effort to work them. If I were able, and I didn't have to worry about transportation, I'd happily work as many hours offered at just about any place that was hiring disability be damned.
Instead of making things better, Biden is making things worse by not allowing aide to expire and encouraging and forcing people to work.

I still don't see how they can just stop working, I received some money which I badly needed but I am still hanging on to some so I do not go down too low in my account and certainly keep working and writing online and every bit I make means a lot to me,

Those are hard jobs. Even if I was younger I wonder if I could work in a place like that- fast, precisely putting up with customer's demands etc. etc. On my feet all day.

I did it for years, and I survived.

@teresatrotter That's super cool. I remember working as a waitress right after I'd had my daughter. It was a small place so the supervisor was forgiving if I couldn't go as fast sometimes- I was still getting over having a kid. Working in that hot, fast burger environment? I couldn't do it. I admire you and am glad you survived.

I did hear from some political pundits that the reason that many people do not want to work is why risk getting hurt working for cheap wages when they can stay home getting a huge paycheck from the government.

That's a shame people don't want everything free and don't want to work..
