People nowadays hardly sing or listen to folk music. It was such a great experience to watch and listen to folk songs as a kid. Today people have started mixing music with different musical genres and experiment with it. I think Hip hop is one such outcome of folk music that continues to tell the ones own life story and experiences in the society and environment it lives, similar to the folk songs which speaks about the ancestors, warriors and seasons of time. Modern day hip hop focus on the society and it's environment and tell their experiences in the form of story or rhymes in the songs; I consider it as a refined form of traditional music.
I know, I grew up listening to pop music and hiphop music and later started to think the importance of folk music.

I guess music has to evolve but sometimes listening to older music is nice too.
