What Does 'Being an American' Mean to You?

I'm a native American (that's what they CALL the children of indigenous tribesmen ... I'm slightly related to them, but really I'm 'native American' because I was born here---my ancestry is mostly German and a little bit British); so 'being American' is pretty-much "normal" for me---i.e. I don't feel "special" to have all the freedoms and "free" services given to me (I dunno---freedom to choose my career (mostly that's a choice I should've made when I was younger), running water, public schools, kept safe from convicted criminals, etc.) Does 'being an American' mean "something special" to you? (Obviously 'if you ARE an American'; if you're not, what WOULD 'being an American' mean to you?) https://www.country1st.com/

And I think it includes a lot of faith Americans have in our military; because your reply made me feel like reminding you that those millions of men-&-women gladly sacrifice their lives-of-freedom to insure that you and yours are safe from those who wish to do you harm.
