End ALL Stimulus NOW

I have said this before, but I will say it again. I think there is a time when financial assistance is needed, and a time when we need to put people back out on their own to fend for themselves. Back when this whole Covid thing got up and running, and businesses (at the discretion of the government) were mandated to shut their doors, I felt it was critical for government to step in and pony up and help those who were affected by unemployment status beyond their control. Government largely did that with stimulus checks, PPP, and of course extensions of unemployment benefits. But now we have a massive worker shortage in this country, and it's hurting businesses and creating blocks in the supply chain. The reason? Because we no longer need the extensions and benefits, but people are still receiving them. And we all know how that works. If the option is to stay home and get the equivalent of what a job would pay you, and in some cases, receive MORE than what a job would pay you... Many people will opt to stay home until the gravy train comes to an end. In the meantime, this has a damaging impact on our economy, and until we get this under control disruptions in the supply chain will only get worse. And not only that, we have to remember that businesses NOW are struggling to STAY in business—because if you don't have people to work in it, you can't DO business. Some businesses may have to shut their doors just because they can't serve their customers. And where does that leave the workers when the benefits DO come to an end? I say end it all. Every dime of it. And end it now. If jobs are out there and people are able to work... They need to get back to work.

Thank goodness our governor has stopped the stimulus unemployment money. He announced the end of all federally funded pandemic unemployment compensation programs in Tennessee, effective July 3.

I think more need to follow suit, including the federal government. It seems clear we do not have an unemployment issue anymore, so what purpose do the extensions serve other than to further hurt the economy in other ways?

@porwest I agree completely. It is the only way out of this economic mess.

@CarolDM It is. We all know welfare as a whole generally does not work. So, why would this? It made sense at one time, for a short time. But it's only a drain on the entire system right now.

I completely agree. There's no longer a need to keep people home. Not when you do the math and realize that COVID is no worse or much different from the flu. It's from the same family as the common cold. We aren't afraid of colds or the flu, why would we be afraid now? Just because it's new and the media told us to?

I agree with you 100%. We hit the panic button. People suffered (but not from Covid). A lifeline needed to be extended due to the overreaction. We did that. We can now see the writing on the wall, businesses need workers, and unemployment now is artificial... Time to cut the lifeline, get back to work, and get back to reality.

@just4him Some. But nothing helps a business like actual business. Just like nothing helps a welfare recipient more than a paycheck.

Not quite yet. But it appears it is coming. It cannot end soon enough.

The government has announced that there will be no more stimulus checks; and the extra unemployment is being stopped as well. People need to get off their a***s and take one of the thousands of jobs that are open. There is a gas shortage because they cannot get enough drivers to man the gas trucks.

Yes it's true it's very hard if people don't have a job and the government cannot support anything until the end as well. How can they.

But that's the point. They may not have a job, but it's not because there aren't jobs available. It is because they are choosing to be unemployed and the government is rewarding laziness.

You have the valid reason to say that. There's a saying: feed a man with fish in a day and he will live in a day but teach him how to fish and he will live for the rest of his life.

Very true. However, I always liked Groucho Marx's take on this one. "Catch a man a fish and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish and you lose a wonderful business opportunity." lol

I just try to stay as close to the realm of reality as much as possible. If businesses can't hire workers how do they serve their customers? And if they can't serve their customers, how do they stay in business? And if they can't stay in business, how do they hire people needing work when the workers have to start finding work?

Aren't those with kids gonna keep receiving those stimulus checks? Gotta say it will dumb for someone to go back to work if they can stay home, do nothing, and earn more than they would at work. But what are they gonna do when this all finally comes to an end? They are probably gonna have a hard time finding work with a huge unemployment gap on their record.

Many red states have already ended it or are trying to from what I've seen. I haven't heard much about states around here but I don't pay much attention to it because I don't receive or need assistance.

It is obvious that red states would end it. It is also obvious blue states would not. At the end of the day the government can give me all the money it wants to. If there is no one to MAKE what I need and want? What's the point?

Biden is spending money like candy. I also saw that businesses can't get people to work.
