Day 17
Genesis 25:20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.
21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it be so, why am I thus?” And she went to enquire of the LORD.
23 And the LORD said unto her, “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manners of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.”
24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
What do you do when life doesn’t make sense? Many people look for answers from the Internet, friends, how-to books, family. As a last resort, they seek advice from their pastor, priest, or another religious person.
Isaac married Rebekah and like his mother, she was barren. Isaac pleaded with God for children. God listened to him and Rebekah conceived. Rebekah knew something wasn’t right and she prayed to God for answers about why her pregnancy was hard. God told her she would have twins. Two nations would be at war with each other. He also told her the elder would serve the younger.
As Christians, when life doesn’t make sense, you need to seek God first, not last. Isaac went to God first for children. He knew the promise God gave his father to be the father of nations, and his seed would be as many as the sands on the seashore and stars in the sky. Isaac probably reminded God of His promise, and God opened Rebekah’s womb and she conceived.
Prayer is something you do when life takes a wrong direction. You don’t know God’s plans. However, you know His plans are good.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Psalm 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
God knows everything about you. He knows your struggles and your victories. When life takes a turn, you need to go to God and find out why. He will tell you. He told Isaac. He told Rebekah. He didn’t leave them in the dark to find their own way.
Do you have questions about your life? Do you wonder when life will turn around? Ask God. It might amaze you at the answers He gives you.
Let’s pray: Father, my life is full of questions. Help me seek You for the answers. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Great words of advice. I find myself often thinking I can handle things on my own. It’s only when I realize I’ve gotten in over my head that I turn to God for the answers. To be honest, I think we all struggle with that from time to time. Thank you for the reminder!

Questions and answers. My life has been full of both of these.
As, I get older though, I tire of asking questions, and I more just want to listen to God, as he talks to me as a friend, about all manner of subjects.
Prayer serves me in this too.
