My country was against masks in the beginning. Later they changed their opinion and masks became compulsory. Masks make a difference, but it is important to understand what the masks can and can't do. Some people think that they can't get infected or infect others if they wear a mask, and that is not true. Masks never offer 100% protection, but they reduce the risk.

There's no proof that masks do anything except provide a false sense of security. While it's true larger prticals are prevented from going through a mask, viruses and germs don't pick and chose what airborne particals that they hitch a ride on. The most dangerous are the microscopic particals that go right through masks.
Now masks do have their place. In staral envronments, to slow transmission. But at the same time, people are also a fair distance from the patient their touching or whatever they are working on. but they were never designed for day-to-day use, because they don't filter out germs and bacteria.

Before Covid...
The US CDC stated that masks were ineffective in preventing or spreading the Seasonal Flu virus.
How is it that masks have gone from ineffective against a virus to mandatory?
And, if Covid is so deadly, why are there not Hazmat receptacles everywhere to properly dispose of contaminated biological waste. The waste generated is a substantial amount and poses a hazard to those coming into contact the discarded materials.
Masks on the streets and sidewalks, gloves and masks in parking lots. At the beach. In shopping carts. On the floor at stores.
If the masks trap Covid, they become a biological hazard. The masks were ineffective on the Flu virus but work well on the Covid virus.
Why has there been no effort put into the proper disposal of contaminated waste?

I see where you are coming from
*Masks are not meant to completely abolish covid virus
*In hospitals the waste disposal follow a universal protocol and hospital takes care of the infectious materials
*Masks do trap the virus but the virus remains viable for certain number of days
So once that is exceeded, the masks are not hazardous. Till then, people have to take care of how they handle the dustbins where they throw the masks

Common sense would dictate that governments or officials would have a plan in place for biohazard disposal on a large scale during this dangerous crisis, no?

Yeah
But I don't think people fiddle with the trash and the masks in the trash aren't that harmful after a certain period of time
And people who segregate the waste wear gloves all the time anyway
So I don't see why there must be a special arrangement

I am a med student
So I've looked into the facts and it turns out that wearing masks is just a part of a set of precautions we need to take.
Wearing mask will definitely work of we take care of sanitization and social distancing.
