Virtual Walks

What kinds of hobbies do you have? One of mine is doing virtual walks for health and fitness. I'm currently doing a Tour de France themed walk. Soon I'll start up a Shark Week themed virtual walk.
They're a lot of fun and motivate me to keep going, even on days when I may not feel like it. I love using apps to "visit" new places, and seeing where I end up each day. Sometimes I'll use the internet to look up more information about the stops I pass along the way.

@soulkissed2003 So you sit at home on your computer or do you actually physically walk somewhere?

They can be a virtual version of a charity event, like a 5K for cancer. Or there are various companies that let you pick out a location or a medal that you like, and sign up for a walk. They have all different distances and locales. Myles is a fun one and it's free to use that one. It's like you get a little glimpse of someplace new.

Ah all the interesting theme. I like it how you set themes based on where you are going.

For that one, the app did set the race on a course in France, but it was much shorter and not on the same track as the actual Tour de France. I like longer virtual walks because they are challenging. But it is still fun! Right now I am doing a Shark Week themed walk and it is set on the coastline in Hawaii. So as I add my mileage into the app it shows me where I would have stopped if I was actually in Hawaii on that path. Some people dress up or find a themed t-shirt or something to either do their walks or to take a photo in when they get their medal in the mail after they are done. I haven't done that yet.

There are companies that offer this. Myles is one that is free. I started searching for different virtual walk companies on Facebook to find some good ones. MedalMad is another. I am not affiliated with any of these companies, just someone who enjoys doing the races. You can pick a virtual walk that you like -- maybe the medal looks cool or it's a location you'd like to explore virtually. You pay the company and usually they ship the medal once you finish the walk.

I just like staying around here reading, and listening to music. I’m one of those “life is more fun inside my head” people. But then you’ve known me for years.

I like using a variety of companies. There are quite a few, and as someone else commented you can find videos on YouTube to do for fun as well, that others have recorded on their walks.
