My tomatoes are bearing fruits now. I have 6 pots of tomato plants on my balcony and 4 of them are bearing fruits. They are looking good. I have not eaten green tomatoes and I have heard that green tomatoes can be eaten. Have you eaten green tomatoes? How do you prepare green tomatoes? I would love to try it. I wonder how will it taste. I am fond of eating ripe tomatoes and I can eat them in many ways. How about you? The weather is nice here at 23C and sunny. I am enjoying my time on my balcony while mylotting and waiting for the time to cook something for dinner. Anyway, have a wonderful weekend. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Bye! Ciao! Adios! Annyeong! Tschüss! See you later in your discussion. Thanks for reading.

Green Tomatoes can be used to prepare jam, sauce, pickles or it can be used as pie filling But you should not consume too much of it or i say better if you let them ripe first amd then use as unripe green tomatoes contains a poisonous substance called alkaloids solanine that may even kill you if consumed(unripe green tomatoes) Better to leave it for few days to become red or greenish red

@ThatDishawhat you said is very true, but it is not as poisonous as you have mentioned. Solanine is also found in potatoes . This heat-resistant natural poison is found in all solanaceous crops, like potatoes. Just 25 milligrams of solanine is enough to make one feel uncomfortable: you get a headache and stomach ache and discomfort in your gut. You might suffer from visual disturbances after consumption. Over 400 milligrams would indeed be lethal. But green tomatoes are not that dangerous: a solanine content of up to 32 milligrams per 100 grams was measured. To be lethally affected, one would have to eat many kilos of green tomatoes

They are not ripe so you should not eat them in my opinion . People eat green tomatoes but I don't like them.

Me, either. Another "food" mom claimed was good and good for me... (When I sneaked mine under the table, even our dog wouldn't eat them.)

Your tomatoes look really good. Ours are not producing this year. I have given up on them. I grew up on a tomato farm, but we never ate them until they ripened. There was always a plate of sliced tomatoes on the table for our meals from late July until early October.

I know there is a green tomato chutney that you can make with green tomatoes. I don't think I've ever eaten one.

There is also a salsa you can make with green tomatoes. It's not bad but not my favorite. (I will eat it with tamales, though. YUM!)

I slice green tomatoes and cover both side in a little flour. Then, I brown them in butter on a medium-hot skillet, flip them over and brown on the other side. Carefully place them on paper toweling, on a platter. Sprinkle with a little salt. We love them!

You're a sick man! Green tomatoes in salsa are okay, but I like red ones better. Have you ever tried fried green tomatoes?

@S4mmyboy I tried to feed mine to our dog. She wouldn't eat them either. (Mom was really mad when she found them under the table. I think I was seven or eight when that happened. )

I have 5 tomato plants and have had three of the varieties in salads so far with my own lettuce. Had zucchini last week. So nice to pick veggies and eat them fresh. Yes, I’ve had pickled green and fried green tomatoes. Going to roast some tomorrow.

@thelme55 Nice! I have seen green tomatoes but I've never eaten them before. In fact, I'm not exactly fond of the red. I try to eat them as they are healthy but not my favourite thing to eat. Wishing you a great week ahead!

Green tomatoes can be eaten but if you do, in moderation or cooked, not raw. I like them fried or I make a jam with green tomatoes.

Wow those look nice and a good size too. I prefer mine ripened although they say you can eat them green. I just cut and eat mine on sandwiches or in salads. When I think of green tomatoes it reminds me of the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes."
