I thought that I had beaten the S&P 500 returns but nope

I had terminated a business that I had started many years ago. It is not making money and the good thing is that it is not making losses either. But I do not see the point of having the business to contain the run without any returns.
Instead I had started my own investment fund with the little spare cash that I have. Because of the diversify portfolio, I had been doing well in some areas while the others were disaster. Overall, I had made a decent 10.7% return in 7 months. That is not counting the saving interest that I have.
Thinking that I had beaten the benchmark of S&P 500, I had spoke to my mentor and having my bragging right.
"10% hahahaha, you are still underperforming." That is his comment. I had took a look at the S&P 500 return only to learn that it is at 16% return.
I nearly turn red with embarrassment. It is lucky that I did not brag around. But having to say that I am still proud of my 10% return. I hope that I will be doing well in the future. I will update everyone on this in the future.

That's still doing well, even if it's not as well as others do.

10% is good, but 16% is even better.

10% is a very good return. Nothing to be embarrassed about.
