At the outset of the pandemia in 2020, the global lingo include surges and waves the plateauing of which made us believe that could be the light at the end of the tunnel.
Reopening was rushed that reclosing became necessary.
India was first to receive the death blow of the lethal 'Delta Variant' the mutation of which was like the virus coming with a vengeance.
I just heard the voices of brothers Terence and Luke as they gleefully tested their small bicycles with additional two tiny wheels at the rear.
Restriction for kids was lifted.
Or so we thought.
The health authorities are in haste warning everyone to take necessary protocols. Even for the vaccinated.
The Delta Variant which is ravishing current epicenter Indonesia has come to our shores.
I fetched my daughter early this morning, it's a holiday. Told her about the Department of Health's advisement on the radio that all public and private hospitals prepare the beds for an impending surge or wave.
My daughter sighed.
This probably just ain't a surge or a wave. Could be the real tsunami.
So please, keep off public places. Tuck the kids home and tell them more tales of dreams and adventures. When they are off their hibernation, perhaps a year from now, they would be ready to soar high.

Early this year, a community pantry was initiated by a young woman who wanted to help the hungry. She wrote on a cardboard "Kumuha ayon sa pangangailangan, magbigay ayon sa kakayahan." That means "get according to your need, give what you can share." The young woman arranged the makeshift pantry under a tree at a corner of a street in a city.
Lo and behold, in a day, people started giving fresh produce and canned goods, sacks of rice and trays of eggs. The queue of people in dire need became kilometric.
The miracle is, in every town and city across the archipelago, community pantries sprouted.
We just have to make that effort to start giving what we can. People will follow suit. No one will go hungry.

@FaruMesh Is Kerala your home town?
That is good. A state is really blessed if the people help each other.

@eileenleyva We have so many social service societies, that's why Kerala is still a blessed state with so many people with helping mentalities

Agree!! When health-care system is not strong, any mass epidemic can cause create havoc in the economy!! But we should shoulder our individual responsibilities as well..

That reminds me that I must work on my vegetable patch soon, while the soil is soft from the rain. I need to remove the weeds and the other ornamental plants so I can plant more veggies.
You are correct, this health crisis calls on every individual to act responsibly.

@anya12adwi I'd probably plant potatoes. I have some leaves already - lettuce, spinach.

The recent relaxing of the protocols was a big mistake for the Task Force to do. They know that from India's experience and now Indonesia too that in haste to start the economic activity they are risking even more infections as we really do not know the extent this variant has infiltrated our country. We can only know from a few that were tested to have this variant but the extent of how this variant has spread we have no idea. I am keeping myself tucked in my house in the meantime I am waiting for my second dose to come and a couple of weeks after that to be sure the antibody is fully functional in my body

@eileenleyva I have heard that and I heard hospitals are again bracing for it. The surge is not yet being felt here but the recent detection that the variant has been discovered recently in one of their patients means that it is now roaming around our country already.

@eileenleyva True although there seems to be a trend now that the numbers are starting to go up once again. I just hope that it is not the delta who is doing this.

@rsa101 The nature of the virus means spreading without being detected, the delta variant is already out there.
Let's cross our fingers ours won't be as horrible as India's and Indonesia's. May the good Lord have mercy on us.

That is good. The health authorities are scrambling to get the message through. That is alarming.
Keep the children safe in the home.

@rakski The rationalization is as simple as that. But if you'd check the news, the UK has a different take. Despite the delta variant, the people are nightclubbing.

@eileenleyva it is nice to go out for sure, but I can clearly see that we should not push it through. I do not want to put risks to my family members

Japan has declared once more a state of emergency. The Japanese take the pandemia seriously.
It's the West that is frustrating. The citizens could have been models of discipline and behavior, Alas, far from it.
Hoping and praying India and Indonesia could overcome the delta variant. I saw clips of the graveyards. Very sad.
By the way, in my country, cremation is protocol for CoViD-19 mortality.
That is, I suppose, a measure to kill the virus also.

@nzlz123 The 'Delta Variant' has just changed the nature of the disease. It is now being compared to the ordinary cold and the chicken pox. Highly contagious. Potentially fatal.
The pandemia has also changed what could be our life-long beliefs. I never ever want to be cremated but if CoViD-19 ravages me, I gotta be burned. Hu hu.
Hope not.

@eileenleyva yeah the delta one is already spreading here and the worst is it already comes to my city. it's like to tell us just wait for our turn, but i always keep the protocol and not go out if it's not important
we do cremation too but only if the family want that

It's said third wave will affect kids..
But in my country vaccine's testing on kids has not finished yet.
Testing phase is supposed to end in August and in September it will be available...
Don't know what we will have to see in future..
Stay safe and take care

We only have prevention in our hands.
We can only take care ,other factors are not in our hands.

The delta variant was the virus that came with a vengeance. If only the stubborn ones got themselves vaccinated and the politics ceased confusing the people, the virus could have been controlled. But nay.
It's a child's game most people played with their hands - close open! Sigh.

@id_peace Oh my! If we follow cautionary tales, that means your country is in grave danger of pandemic situation. We only have eight cases and our health officials are very much afraid of what could be...
Indonesia has some significant morbidity and mortality - by the thousands, I believe.
Stock some food. Stay home.

Praying my people would heed. The morbidity/mortality in the first wave was agonizing. We couldn't bear to lose more family and friends.
