It is 4:30 PM as I write this post and I have just got up after my afternoon power nap. Feeling fresh after the much needed nap Today was another day I substituted for the teachers who got sick after their vaccinations on Monday. So I worked till 1 in the afternoon. In between, I got some 20 minutes of break to grab my cup of coffee and make a couple of posts on the other site. Today is the last day that we would have non-veg cooking in the house. We don't eat on Thursday and Friday is a full moon day( Purnima). We do not eat on Purnima day every month as my mother-in-law performs a special pooja( prayer) on full moon day. Hindus from North India ( Aryan descendants) consider full moon day as an auspicious day while those from Southern India ( Dravidian descendants) consider new moon ( amavasya) day as an auspicious day. And we have two Hindu calendars. One followed in Northern India has a new month starting on full moon day while in Southern Indian calendar, a new month begins from new moon day. So, Friday is the full moon day and the auspicious month of Saawan begins. We have no non-veg for a month. Lord Shiva is worshipped in this month and Monday and Friday, the days of Shiva and Shakti( Parvati, Shiva's wife) are important days where traditional Hindus follow some rituals. And I do them. So, today husband got both chicken and fish in little quantities. I made chicken curry for lunch before my work started in the morning. After work, I have fried fish and kept it for dinner. For my vegetarian self, I have made ridge gourd and Bengal gram curry. So, all done for cooking for the day. I am fresh after my afternoon nap and plan to spend some time online. It's another day without rain. Yay! three days in a row with no rain. I have called my gardener tomorrow and hope it does not rain. There is a lot of work to be done there in my garden. Have a good time in your mylot corner

Saawan has special value for married women in our culture too. And being the first one for her, it becomes extra special. I think you would be sending some gifts for her. And if I am not wrong Saawan teej has special value in Rajasthan. I will order some green bangles for myself. You should try to listen to your body and take as much rest as it demands. It will take some time for you to get back to normal. Take it slowly.

So for how many days your family won't have non veg? Are you vegetarian right from the beginning?

For one month till the Raksha Bandhan day. And we do not eat on any religious occasion or Tuesday, Thursady and Saturday otherwise. I have grown up in a family dominated by vegetarians but we did have few fond non vegetarians too. We had no restrictions and one can eat what one wished for. I have eaten non veg btu never liked it. I was married to a hard-core non-veg-loving family. I am vegetarian by choice but have fish a few times a year and eggs regularly. I cook non-veg regularly.

I believe in the power of full and new moons. Here in Waldorf schools, teachers start any new lesson on a new moon day and continue it till full moon day.
