I did NOT give AUTO my permission to pay in full the amount a 2-year alleged over-payment 'debt' Social Services say I "owed them". Upon tax lodgement on the 13th July, a large amount was meant to come into my bank account today. I thought I would be celebrating. Then, lo and behold, ATO made that decision to remove $+ from my total tax refund that's suppose to be in my bank. I called both agencies. AUTO: "It's law that we can take measures for you to pay your debt." Law-abiding tax-payer (me): Yes, you've done that. And I'm calling now to complain about it. I'm a law abiding taxpayer, and I pay my tax dutifully. AUTO: "That's what we legally did, you pay your debt." LATP: I get that, and Social Services had been deducting $60 off my fortnigthly social Family Tax Benefit (handout) since 2019. I allowed you that legal action paying method you had imposed upon me. And we were good. AUTO: We are recording your voice for security. You don't mind? LAPT: Fine with me.... I want my $ tax refund back and I want Social Services to continue deducting $60 fortnightly as previously, legally arranged. The lockdowns have put me in this jobless situation and I had been expecting my tax refund upon tax-lodgement this year. Why do you do such a thing-- get my hard-earned tax money when I most need it? AUTO: There's nothing much we can do for you. We suggest you call Social Services. LAPT: Looks like you have decided to do nothing. I will go directly to Federal Court if you will not investigate and resolve my complaint against you for your error of stealing my money. **** Social Services: May I please have your vaccination details regarding (son and (daughter)? And your Medicare number, please. Blah, blah, blah. LATP: I've called regarding my tax refund I lawfully paid in 2021 and my rebate must be due into my bank account in full amount based on the Notice of Tax Assessment. My Medicare information is irrelevant. SS: (Pretending to listen) and again, lectured me about their legal duty to 'collect debt'. 10 minutes wait to çonsult an official. She came back. And offered me Google Garnishy Guides on Refunds Guides. I clicked online about that Google guides. LATP (ME): That Google guides is for you and AUTO. Because you now OWE me $ AUTO stole it from my tax money and credited it to you in FULL which I NEVER GAVE you, SS, and AUTO the PERMISSION to that kind of thievery. Sorry, I'm not being abusive (warning at the onset of my call on queue). It's just the appropriate word I see fit in this situation. SS: ... The google guides on how to refund is protocol response I can give you right now. it is what it is. LAPT (me): Looks like you're not going to help me (which my tax money paid you for-- to help me). And you seem to justify your actions favoring SS and AUTO, and not us, the lawful tax-payers. Silence.... LATP: Alright then, I will now go to Federal Court Commonwealth Ombudsman and have you return my $ AUTO and SS stole from me. (I'm fully aware of my voice being recorded). She gave me my Complaints reference #. LAPT: Thank you. See you in court. ---- I later called and emailed the Commonwealth Ombudsman and the Inspector General of Taxation (IGT). The lady-lawyer was very helpful. And advised me to write, email ALL people involved and record everything on paper. She said, 10 days is allowable days for SS and AUTO to investigate and give an account on the anomalies in the dark tax world of thievery.
