Pretreating IMMEDIATELY is about the only thing that works really well. My sister swears by oxiclean for her stains. Personally, I figure kids will be kids and unless it's something that's really precious and expensive I toss some pretreat on it and put it in the laundry to be washed with everything else. If it comes out great if not.. it becomes play clothes! LOL I can find so much better to do then stand in front of a washing machine with a scrub brush!

I guess I'm the same way.I buy my daughter's clothes at babygap and old navy so I don't want them to get ruined because I want to keep them for all the other kids we plan on having. So, as soon as I see that she get's something on her shirt like-- spaghetti sauce or juice etc. I will take her shirt off and spray it with DREFT stain remover and wash it right away & it always comes out. Or, I'll soak some of her clothes in baby oxi clean and that seems to help too!!

I know the secret!! I cloth diaper my daughter and I never have a stain ever, so I'm sure it works for regular clothes too. I'll just give you my routine for the diapers and you can adjust it how you like :). First COLD (important) wash with baking soda. Then I do a hot wash with detergent. Then a small warm wash with vinegar. I think you can skip it down to just a cold wash with baking soda, some detergent and vinegar in the fabric softener slot.

I like Arm & Hammer - they have this powdered stuff that you add with the soap to the regular wash, stains or not. It's safe on colours and the clothes rinse really clean, stains come right out. Also, getting to stains quickly, NOT rubbing at them with a cloth, etc. For gum, go for ice cubes! Seriously!

I've personally had the best luck with a bar of soap, water, and some elbow grease. Just soak the stain, rub the bar soap on it, and then scrub scrub scrub!!! It'll take out just about anything that my daughter puts there. I've also heard some good things about a pre-treater called "totally toddler".
