Mockingbird Chase Mystery Solved

I wrote a coupe of days ago about a mockingbird that attacked me in the yard. And he follows me in the front and backyard. I thought he had babies somewhere. This is the natural behavior of any bird to protect babies.
But it is late in the season for babies. So I have watched this bird trying to solve the mystery. I thought maybe he is just a crazy bird that doesn't like this crazy bird lady.
Yesterday evening, I noticed he started sitting on one of the Japanese beetle traps I have in the yard. I have one in the front and one in the back.
The beetles are all over my rose of sharon and also my rose bush. They eat the leaves and the buds of the flowers before they even bloom. And they will demolish the bushes if I don't control them. There are more this year than ever.
This mockingbird decided these bugs are for him. He has landed on the traps and apparently is waiting for them to fly in, so he can have his lunch and dinner. Mystery solved. I believe this is the reason for his behavior.

Smart bird. He found a drive thru fast food place and didn't want you to mess it up lol.

that makes sense - food is the third thing (nest, eggs, then food supply!) not anti CBBBBL

@CarolDM i think you often think like a bird, ergo all the great pictures. you just didn't think like a hungry bird that didn't want to share lunch!

So he's protecting his food source. I'm glad he likes them because he can get rid of quite a few.

If he's feeding off the bugs, that would makd a whole lot of sense.

Wow, amazing ecosystem-- natural food-chain.
Our pardalotes are insect-eating little birds, too.

It could very well be. If he is eating them, he is doing you a favor for sure.
