July's Full Buck Moon

July’s full moon will peak this week and appear full for several days into the weekend, though it may have a reddish-orange glow due to wildfires burning in the American West.
There are currently wildfires burning across 13 western states, including one in Oregon that's the largest in the U.S., all of which are creating hazy skies on the opposite coast.
The full moon this month is known as the "buck moon," and got its name from the Algonquin tribes living in the present-day northeastern U.S., according to the Farmers Almanac. The name reflects the time of year when summer peaks and velvety antlers of male deer typically begin to appear.
Actually caught a glimpse the last few nights of the moon.

I do feel for those affected by the wildfires. While I haven't had to worry myself about them, I understand it's no fun for those who do.

@CarolDM So have I. I've been affected by them as well, not directly, but there have been several close to where I live. So, I understand.

@CarolDM I feel like we need to be more attentive to what our first nations have to say on this topic. They have lived on this land longer then we have, without the fire-fighting techniques of today. They used to practice controlled burning. That is apparently a way of keeping the fires at bay.

As I was driving home last night around midnight, I could see the beautiful moon in the sky as I drove. The skies were a bit hazy, not sure if it was due to a thin veil of clouds, smoke from fires, or because a fog was starting to set in. I was too tired to really notice, other than it dulled the brightness of the moon somewhat.

fun picture!
I am always amazed at the names the first people gave so many things. Much more interesting sometimes than pink moon or blood moon given by the ROW!

@DocAndersen That is a good one. The clouds always seem to show up when it gets full.

Carol, I've seen the moon last night, but I didn't know if it's a full moon or not. I'm not good at following the cycle of the moon. LOL

@CarolDM Oh! You are amazing. Did you know that I only follow the tides so that when I go to the sea I will know when is the best time. I live near the sea and I'm surrounded by many beaches here.

I read somewhere that the smoke is so bad that we can see it all across the ocean.
The sun is still up most of the day so I didn't realize it was a full moon til I saw how low tide has been the last days. It should be visible tonight, but when I rises I think I might be asleep

I got to see the moon the night before last and it already looked to be almost full.
My heart goes out to all the wildlife that is now homeless and probably facing the horrors of coping with stupid humans who have no compassion for them. I don't mean to say all people are that way but way too many are.

The wildfires are such a concern. I keep praying for rain; but it's just not coming. Great information about the moon.
