Am I right in guessing that 'tenure' makes you 'almost un-fire-able'?

@mythociate Yes as long as you don't kill or sleep with a student. There are other requirements linked to evaluations and such but tenure is a great thing. If there are layoffs in my department they start at the bottom (the newest hires). My ex always encouraged me to switch to a different school district because I was struggling with parents so much. I refused because I didn't want to give up my tenure.

Tenure basically guarantees him a job for life, unless he does something really outrageous like kidnapping the dean. It means that when the college makes cuts they will fire other professors and not him. He's looking for cushy security. Or his ego might tell him he deserves the honor of tenure.
