There are several methods of allergy testing:
1. pin prick - allergen is placed on back and then a small needle is poked through allergen into skin
2. interdermal - small amount of allergen is injected right below the skin
3. blood testing
4. patch test - allergen is placed on skin and covered with waterproof bandaid
With children, the patch test is used if at all possible but some allergens can only be tested via one method. Believe me, they would not be doing this if it wasn't necessary and, if it seems to be too much for your daughter, they will stop or do it in phases. Please don't hesitate to call your doctor and ask which method they will use. (I'm an R.N.)

Well I had my allergy test over 30 years ago, so I'm not sure if they do it the same way now. But what they did is they gave me little tiny shots with syringes on the back. Each one has a small amount of a specific allergin. Mold, cat dander, dog, etc. They then determine what you're allergic to by how much each shot swells. It's not particularly pleasant, but it's not that bad.

I'm having my very first allergy testing tomorrow afternoon. Apparently this takes several hours?! Not looking forward to it. Does it hurt??
