Update on Brendel For Those Who Asked

Many have asked how Brendel is doing since her diagnosis of kidney disease and chronic bronchitis. I appreciate your concern.
She is holding her own it seems. She continues to eat her fishy wet food. Sometimes she prefers chicken. I never know what she may want. I buy the small cans and she only eats about 1/3 at a time. But she only weighs 6 pounds.
I watch her all the time and she seems ok for now. The Dude keeps his distance from her. But if she has a coughing spell (or episode from bronchitis) he is right beside her. Supporting her like a good little brother.
Snapped this photo yesterday in the screen room before her day long nap.

Glad she is hanging in there. I wonder if she went to a specialist if they could recommend anything new or cutting edge? Just an idea..Sometimes general vets don't know the newest things out there, but from what you are describing it is the same as my sister's cats went through. I am glad she is holding her own.

@CarolDM That's a shame.. I just wonder if any new treatments are around. I know when my cat was ill, they said taking him to a cardiac specialist might help..although the vet said she had just taken a seminar, and was pretty sure she was up to date on treatments

@snowy22315 She is about at stage 2 out of 4 stages. Drinking plenty of water and the canned food is good for her.

Brendel is still very happy, shiny and beautiful. If she wasn't happy, you would be the first to notice. Dude cares, he just doesn't know what to do, to help out:)

@CarolDM The napping is a good sign. She's conserving what little nutrition she gets in minute portions of food. Sleeping doesn't require much energy. Thank God, she hasn't lost her appetite, that's wonderful!

@CarolDM And now she's eating baby food. That should be good for her.

@LindaOHio I have to switch it up, she eats a certain food for a couple of days and then decides she doesn't like it.

It sounds like that cats have an unspoken understanding, that is probably why the Due keeps away from her for the most part. They are both so lucky to have you and your love, too many would be quick to put a pet down not let them have their good and bad days, which I know has to be hard on you.

I know poor Brendel is going through a lot, but think about what poor Dude is going through. He's a smart cat, he knows his sister is going through something that is not good. I hope he handles it well and takes good care of his sister.

@CarolDM I'm glad he's not being neglected through all of this. He still needs as much love (or more) as Brendel does.

@moffittjc No, he will never be neglected. He is in my lap every night while watching tv. All 16 pounds. My shadow.

@CarolDM Stinky fishy canned food is a great way to entice cats to eat. Trader Joe's had a great one called "Tuna for Cats" that was high-quality too and only 49 cents a can. Unfortunately they discontinued it. My cats absolutely loved it.

I would say Dude is there when it counts. The poor little one. I hope she gets better. My Sophie after I told her some good news is eating now. I believe I understand why she did not eat here and now I have to think about her needs. Carol, thank you for letting us know how Brendel is doing.
