Meet Laverne and Jane. Laverne is a rescue dog. The Humane Society that rescued her from a hoarding situation thought she looked like Laverne, the character played by Penny Marshall. I would agree.
Laverne is about ten years old, and weighs 8 pounds. She has maybe four teeth. I will not tell you how old Jane is or how much she weighs, but she has more teeth. She and I have been friends for over 35 years.
I left my house before 7 to drive about 40 minutes to Jane's house. From there we drove 2 hours for her to pick up Laverne, and pay her adoption fee. The Humane Society says that if for any reason Jane cannot keep her they would take her back.
I got home a bit after 2.
Laverne, and another dog, Shirley, were rescued from an animal hoarding situation and had not been cared for properly. That is why she has so few teeth. Shirley was adopted a few weeks ago, but Jane was on a month long vacation. The Humane Society held on to her for Jane. She was wanting a lap dog and it looks like Laverne will fill the bill.

Laverne is small enough that when Jane travels again, Laverne can ride in her carrier with her.

Jane is a good person. And she needed a dog.She is also smart enough to know that she is older and needed an older pet.

@GardenGerty Jane is right. My hubby talks about how our next adoptee must be older cause we'll be older. He worries about our fur person's welfare if something were to happen to us.

@sallypup Many dogs end up abused and neglected, after older owners pass away.

Jane needed a small companion for when her husband works a lot and is not there.

Jane got a little pink carrier for her, and a pink leash. While on her trip she bought food and water dishes at a thrift shop to have for Laverne.

Laverne is precious, what a shame that she wasn't properly cared for! Now Jane will give her a good, loving home.

I wonder if Laverne misses Shirley, or the other way around.

The Humane Society said that Shirley has been doing well in her new home. I think Laverne will as well.

That is so nice she was able to adopt and Laverne will have a loving home now. It's sad watching these Hoarding shows and seeing all these animals being neglected. Glad Jane is happy now too and can now have puppy snuggles.

Thank you for sharing the picture of Laverne with us. She is adorable. I hate when animals are mistreated. I am so happy for both Jane and Laverne.

Yes when there is a happy ending then it is good and if there isn't it is very sad. Animals need us to speak for them if if they are mistreated or abused for no reason then people are not nice. Animals have feelings like we do and they can feel hurt. My cat started eating again because I told her some good news that she was happy about. Animals can be happy or sad. She was not happy and hated her situation and not me but her situation and when I told her the good news it helps.
