The Burari mass suicide.
A family of 11, who had been living in the double-story house in Burari, Delhi, were all found dead by a neighbour in the wee hours of the morning.
The family consisted of two men, seven women, and two teens.
10 of them were found hanging from the ceiling in the living room in a circular formation— their eyes masked, and mouths taped, as frightening as it sounds. Some of them had their hands and feet tied up as well.

While the 11th member, the 77-year-old lady— head of the house, was found strangulated in another room.
To go into detail, what actually happened was ?
The aforementioned Chundawat family owned a grocery shop in the neighbourhood.
Gurcharan Singh, the neighbour of the Chundawats’, could not find Lalit, the elder son of the family during a morning walk.
He also noticed that their shop was closed till late. Hence, to enquire about Lalit, he went inside the house(the door was open) and got the shock of his life when he came upon the bodies of the family members, including young and old, hanging from the ceiling.
Before police could make it to the crime scene, the word had already spread and the media was informed.
And in the blink of an eye, the case was ready to send shivers down the back of any person who saw their news.
As the investigation deepened, things started to become more groggy.
Here’s what the investigation team found (the details that were made public) ?
The CCTV footage of the street from the night before recorded the two female members of the house carrying stools and wires.
When the bodies were found, there were 5 stools in the room.
All the bodies had their ears plugged with cotton.
Their faces were covered with cloth pieces cut from a single bedsheet.
The team found eleven diaries in the house, all of them maintained for the period of eleven years describing how hands and legs should be tied and various other superstitions. These diaries were found in the prayer room with tapes on them.
The manner in which the bodies were found hanging in circular formation exactly matched what was written on the diaries.
The handwriting in the diaries matches the handwriting of the two female members of the family (those recorded in CCTV).
The most shocking one was a line from the diary: "everyone will tie their own hands and when the kriya (ritual) is done then everyone will help each other untie their hands."
The strange alignment of 11 pipes exiting through the back wall of the house.
It might sound crazy but four pipes have straight ends( 2 adult males and 2 teens), and seven have curled ends(7 females) with the 1 curled pipe at a distance(the grandmother strangled in another room).
Now, it might already be clear that there are two main possibilities of what happened here.
Occult/superstitious activity: the content of the diaries and the mannerism of death clearly prove that the family was thinking they’d survive this and were doing it by getting influenced by some superstitious claims.
Shared psychosis: Psychologists have commented that these deaths are a result of ‘shared psychotic disorder’ in which members of a group blindly trust one among them and follow instructions without questioning. Psychologists feel that Lalit suffered from a ‘delusional disorder’.
But there are few things that make this case totally apart from all the occult/psychotic stuff.
There were only 5 stools. So it’s clear they all took turns after the other person had hanged himself/herself. And I surmise, to keep things less tacky, the ‘adults’ made the teens and other younger ones to go first.
Some of the bodies (the teen boys and the young woman) had hands and feet tied up. This means they might have expressed repulsion to the act and thus got tied up and hung first.
The fact that those two female members carried the stools and wires and were eventually revealed to be the writers of the 11 diaries proves that they might be the ones influencing others.
This whole episode had its preparation going on for 11 years.
They thought they wouldn’t die. And that their late father(the elder head of the house who had died years ago) will lead them to the path of salvation and then bring them all back to earth.
They used to attend normal family gatherings and functions, as stated by their distant relatives. None of them saw the signs.
Every media house covered this case for weeks until police put out a statement alleging this case to be mass suicide.
Many true crime podcasts were made on it and a Netflix documentary is also on the way.
This case was the highlight as nothing bizarre of this sort has happened before that got this much buzz from general people.
Call it suicide because of an occult activity or a disorder, there were at least 4 murders that took place that night. Those kids who didn’t want to go, and the elderly who was strangled shouldn’t have lost their lives for others’ stupid beliefs.
PLEASE BEWARE OF SUCH PRACTICES
