College Degree? Does it get you the job or prevent you from getting the job?

A year ago I graduated with my masters' degree and one of the obstacles I faced in the job market is the label of being over qualified. Luckily I was a able to find a job within my field but it discouraged me at first that my degree may be preventing me from getting the job I always wanted. What is your experience? Do you feel that education can sometimes prevent employers from hiring you?

In my case it prevented me from getting a promotion after 24 years of service. I had Junior College and one year of university and was taking night classes to finish the degree. I was told that there was no promotion until I got my degree. So I quit, actually I took early retirement and have lived happily ever since.

Congradulations. Thats what happen to one of my friends. She wasnt able to get a promotion because of the college education she lacked.
For me since I was trying to get back into the workforce I found it to be at a disadvantage because I had a masters degree.
