I made an easy $100

All I had to do was update a Microsoft Excel file... Updating the data was not a problem. Easy to do. The challenge was sorting the data in alphabetical order. The way the data was structured doing a regular sort, or custom sort even, screwed everything up. What I had to do was open a new spreadsheet and copy/paste the data from the old spreadsheet to the new one, doing it in alphabetical order. That is, I had to find those people that start with the letter A and then copy/paste that data into the other spreadsheet. Then do the Bs, the Cs, etc... And while I was doing each individual starting letter, I had to make sure that within that letter it is in order as well. It didn't take a few minutes. More like a few hours, or more than a few hours even. But it didn't take too long a time. And in the end I got $100. All while sitting at home in my sweats.

If it took you four hours, that's still 25 bucks an hour. Excellent pay. Good for you. Do you wish you could do this every day now?

Just out of curiosity I wish I had kept track of how long it took me do this. If something like this came up again I would do it. I wasn't even looking for it. My mom was asked to do it but she told me that she wants me to do it instead as she has no time for it. She said she would pay me what she was paid for it. I said ok.

Actually, I was told that I will need to add some more data to it... Not 100% done with it.

And I have to mention the misuse of that word "made"; it's the 'popular' way to say it (as I'm pretty sure people don't know how else to GET money ... legally ... not unless you count 'suing people whom you say owe you money'), but ... since very few people want to "give" me money, I feel the need to remind people that most money-making is ACTUALLY 'agreeing to fulfill a contract in return for money that the employer gives you.' That, or I'm just a jealous nerd.

Is made not a good word to use? Is it better to say earned instead? Or should I say given in return for completing an action?

It wasn't a site. It was something my mom was asked to do but she asked me to do it instead. When she got paid for the job she gave me the money.

@CarolDM If it were on some site I am not sure they'd offer to pay that much. But never know.

That's a hefty pay for a simple task. That's good. Is it a regular thing to do?

@florelway What do you mean by "consolation from your mom"?

This was a one time thing. I wouldn't mind such a regular thing for $100 each time.

@lovebuglena yes, it's an easy job. But that could just be a consolation from your mom.

I thought I'd just do a sort or custom sort and that would do the trick. It didn't work out that way. Didn't expect to have to do a manual copy/paste to sort all the data. There was over 100 rows of data.

I can imagine that was a bigger task than one might think, but $100 is good pay.

Yeah. I though I just press the sort button and it will do the trick. It didn't work out that way.

@moffittjc That would be awesome. This was a one time thing though. My mom had me do it instead of doing it herself and then she paid me what she was paid for it.

@lovebuglena And one time I earned $50 for a survey. I thought it was just a joke, but they did pay me! This was over 15 years ago, now those fair surveys aren't available.

When you have data on every line it is very easy to sort. But when you have data on some lines and not others, and then you have data next to that it will not sort correctly. So, have to resort to doing it manually.
