What is it with Ratings? What is its algorithm?

I do not know exactly how ratings are arrived at but people make a big fuss about it here on mylot. My only understanding is that my ratings is just my number of posts and not an indication of the quality of my contributions. What do you say?

it is the number of posts.but if someone gives a + sign for you if they like your response then it is positive rating and someone gives - then negative rating. These will also have an impact on your earnings.

I have wondered the same thing myself. I don't think that ratings is based on the number of posts though because I have seen people here in myLot that have lesser posts but higher ratings and vice versa. I think it is mostly based on the ratings given to you by other mylotters in your responses, comments and discussions so in effect it is indirectly based on the quality of your posts. I also think that when you have higher rating then you have better earnings. I'm not sure about this though but I have observed this with my own experience here, but maybe it was just coincidence that I earned better when I got my first star...

I think that no one here knows exactly how the rating works. I read a lot of discussions about that and there are many different opinions. Someone says that rating is important someone no. About algorithm. MyLot changed yesterday but only them know how it works. So don't worry and go on!
