Day 53
Numbers 14:11 And the LORD said unto Moses, “How long will this people provoke me? And how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them?
12 “I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.”
13 And Moses said unto the LORD, “Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou brought up this people in thy might from among them;)
14 “And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stands over them, and that thou go before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 “Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.’
17 “And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 “The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
19 “Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”
20 And the LORD said, “I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 “But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
22 “Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 “Surely, they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24 “But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.”
What does all your complaining gain you? People will either side with you or stand against you.
God told Moses to send out twelve people to search out the land so they could see the land God promised them. When Moses sent the men to spy out the land, ten of the twelve brought back an evil report about the people of the land. They all agreed the land was a land flowing with milk and honey, but ten of them said they couldn’t take the land because of the people, who were to them as giants.
God’s anger kindled against them. He told Moses, He would kill the entire congregation and raise up a nation unto Moses who would serve Him. Moses interceded for the people once again. He reminded God of His promise, and what God had already done that the nations saw and knew about as He went before Israel in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. God listened to Moses and told him He would pardon them, but their generation would not pass into the Promised Land from the age of twenty upward. They would live in the wilderness for forty years, one year for each day they searched out the land. Only their children would enter the Promised Land.
As Christians, are you like the children of Israel? Do you grumble and complain when things don’t go as you expect them? Or do you wait on God to bring you through your trouble and destroy your enemies?
It’s easy to throw in the towel when life impedes your dreams. It’s easy to give up and live in the pit of destruction. Some have even committed suicide because they see no way out. What do you gain when you give up? Are you willing to let go of the dream God put on your heart? Are you willing to let your enemy, Satan, win the battle? Or will you stand firm as Joshua and Caleb did and not give any ground to Satan, and go forward knowing God has already won the victory and you will see His purpose fulfilled in your life?
If you let doubt and fear rule your life, Satan has already won the battle. Declare today that God rules your life and cast Satan from your life and take hold of God’s promises. You will see the victory when you stand firm and let God lead you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me stand firm in everything You told me; every promise You gave me. I stand against Satan right now and cast him from my life. He has no hold on me. Let Your Word fill me so I will see Your promises fulfilled in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
