Remembering loved ones who passed away

Its been exactly 33 years yesterday since my dad passed away. He had a paralytic attack and was on bed for 3 years before he passed away. I was barely 14-15 then.... Since he was buried in my hometown which is almost 700 miles away from where we all stay now, we don't visit the grave anymore. So every year we just have a remembrance prayer for him in our local church.
My mom always used to tell me, there is no point or say its of no use decorating the graveyard, placing garlands /wreath or flowers at the gravestone after the death, make drama and let people know that you loved your parents. One should care about/shower love/respect their parents when they are alive.
So these words always haunt me till now, I have always tried my best to be a good boy and never disobeyed (maybe I was too young to misbehave
) .
So always express your love and gratitude to your parents by respecting and honouring them

Yes, of course we should appreciate our parents while they are alive, but there is nothing wrong with putting flowers or a wreath at a grave. if their spirit can see you..they would probably be happy they have not been forgotten. Also, it is a nice touch. I did that a couple of years ago at my grandparent's graves. I had not been to either cemetary since they passed. I was glad I did.

Great memories of your deceased father Sam. My father also left the world 10 years ago. I still live with his memories and the love, respect and attachment for him will lie for eternity. Everyone has highest appreciation for their parents who are next to Gods.

Very true, people should not taken their parents for granted. They raised you well and I'm sure you've made them proud.

@S4mmyboy Happens to many of us, I guess. But they raised you to be a respectful person, that's important.

@cahaya1983...well I never behaved rude with them, but there are few things which I regret for not listening to their advise.

@S4mmyboy I've been sick for several days. I quit the new job last week and then got sick over the weekend.
I had a headache that made reading hurt, so stayed asleep as much as I could. (I was also throwing up everything I tried to eat. It wasn't fun.)

Thank you for sharing this. You are so right. RIP to your dear Dad.
You were a good son dont worry.
He sees you I am sure.
That is a long way far to go to grave.
Both my parents have passed too RIP
I have a few regrets but know in the end love is all that matters.

I'm sorry about the loss of your dad. I think I would tend to agree with your mom. Once gone, I don't think our loved ones are with their physical body anymore. I think remembrance is just as meaningful distant or near
