Cats are like beggars

If you have noticed beggars hate to be confined to homes that are available for them where they are looked after. They prefer to roam around begging I can say that about cats as well.
We have had so many cats that we take good care of They live in the lap of luxury but they leave us as they too want to roam around begging for food.
We had seven and now we only have three

I differ with you here. We also had lot of cats and except for one cat the mother who started the big family, who wanted to roam around, no other cat wanted to go out. They ultimately were forced out by call of nature and not in search of food. Many were killed by stray dogs who were around in big numbers.

When you say forced out who forces them out and how can dogs kill them if they just go out to attend to the call of nature and then get back immediately after that. A bit confused.
We do not have dogs here who attack cats. Just as we see cats owned by others visiting us I feel our cats too must be doing the same. I only hope our cats are not killed by dogs which I doubt very much

@msdivkar That is seen here as well. But we have no dog packs the way you have reported. The mother cat that is with us would deliver elsewhere and bring home just one kitten and this she has done several times with intervals. Sadly our cats despite all the care and love they leave us and not return. I am hoping they are happy wherever they are. It took me a while to accept this situation. During the pandemic and even now we buy dry fish in bulk and soak a little every evening keeping it over night, washing it thoroughly It is then fed the next morning once again thoroughly washing and removing the salt. They also get pressure cooked chicken and dry feed for nibbling throughout the day,.
Munni the young female kept me company in all my strolls in the garden and out of the blue she disappeared.

@msdivkar We had issues here during the pandemic Lucky you managed to get mackerals every day even during the pandemic. We spend a lot on the dry fish and go through that routine every day to soak it in water and wash it thoroughly till it becomes saltless apart from the other food. .
We have had cats when we were living in the city and they stayed till they reached old age but here all cats roam around including those of our neighbours.
If you think that we did not love or take care of them that is not true. I have always had dogs and cats in my life right from the time I was a kid

That is what I noticed about Burt. When he wants to go outside, he will go to the front door and meow to get my attention that he wants to go outside.

Choosing different resting places is common among cats. Our cats do that too.

The 3 cats are there but I will not be surprised if they too decide to have their way. I have accepted it.

It is common here for cats to be let free. We cat care lovers do our bit and are helpless when they behave the way they do.

Good for you. We have a mix and that perhaps explains their behaviour - not necessary that they go out for food as we over feed them.

@Andini I get you. We feed them fish, chicken feet pressure cooked and plenty of dry feed that is kept for them to nibble throughout the day I still feel their instinct to go from door to door overpowers our love and care for them.

Oh yes they are roamers indeed. My sister has cats like this and they still want outside to go around places.
