Burglary At Home in a Broad Daylight

It's so sickening because of this pandemic many are starved yet not a reason to commit a burglary for survival. At 9 in the morning this day , me and others at home went to the seashore near home ( more or less 3,000 meters away ) to inquire if it's possible to have few hours swimming and picnicking. I was told, it's not possible so we went home only to see my niece crying.
She and her 3 years old baby were left at home, but sad, the gate was not locked and the main door too not locked. It was wide open and they were inside their bedroom. When my niece decided to drink cold water, she was so shocked to see a young guy , holding my laptop and piggy bank of my niece. The young guy was facing at our TV set having cellular phones and imported watches. The robber was also shocked to see my niece. My niece fought the guy , she grabbed the laptop so hard that she dropped on the floor and was able to get back the laptop.
The worst part is when the robber pulled a sharp knife and luckily my niece escape the punch and knife. The burglar walked away when he heard noise of the other room, it was the baby calling her mom that destructs his attention, then we arrived and met the guy . We did not know what had happened inside home. If we only knew of his attempted burglary, he might be butchered like a pig. Fortunately, the robber was captured when I called my cousins and relatives police officers in the city. The guy is 17 years old and a garbage collector in the city. He said he is so hungry and needs money. Whatever reasons he would have, what he did is punishable by law. .The piggy bank containing 5,000 pesos was returned to my niece.
That's why I'm late in Mylotting. Thanks for reading. Let us always be vigilant. What a scary day and it's our fault. Too much trust kills .

Gosh.!!!!!my God ..so sorry for the robbery attempt...your niece was lucky that nothing serious happened. Had the knife attack been dangerous then it would have lead to something else. She seems to be a brave one that she atleast tried to stop it....
Thank the Lord for this Erly

@S4mmboy, yes, we thanked the Lord for protecting my niece, the baby and the stuffs at home. The robber should have not been born. If he was hungry, he better had eaten all the foods on the table, but he didn't so he told a lie. He has dome robberies in the city the police told us at home this morning. He miht be sentence o many years in prison. The police are still tracing his background and all those places that he lived before to find answers to his crime liabilities.

@snowy22315, Thanks , yes so scary and my niece was trembling in so much fear. When we entered home she sobbed so hard and seemed blamed me and others. Her mom pacified here and was glad to know her piggy bank was handed over to her by the police on duty.

So sorry to know that someone attempted burglary at your home. Glad to know that your Niece is safe and escaped the punch of this fellow. Good to know that the money he took away is returned back.
It's very sad to know that this guy is just 17 years and was doing it for money to survive. Yes this pandemic has made the things difficult for lot of the people. Many of us lost our job which was the only source of income for us. Hope the things get better soon.

@cacay1 same thing happened with us too few months ago. We didn't lock the main gate and a thief stole bicycle of my daughter. I started a discussion about it
It's sad that someone stole my daughter's bicycle today [em]angry[/em] It's more upsetting that now we cannot rely on the neighbors or anyone as the crime is...

@sjvg1976, it was our fault for not locking the door and the main gate. We just close but not locked. It's easy to push by an intruder. Me and people at home were so regretful and felt sorry for the things that had been done and the cause that frightened much my niece. The baby also cried in fear. We are still thankful for the things stolen were taken back and the robber is in jail. I hope to see him remorseful during the trial appearance.

What a relief to know your niece and the baby are okay. That must have been a terrifying experience!
It's just very unfortunate that people would resort to committing crimes just to get something to eat. Stay safe!

@cahaya1983, it was indeed scary and it's because of our negligence. We cannot forgive ourselves if something bad happens. What if my laptop not taken back

@cahaya1983 , yes, so true . This day all our doors are lock afraid of that robber has an accomplice and want to take revenge. My nearest neighbor place her ferocious dog near our gate and we install a LED light that signals an attacker seems like a burglar alarm.

@iammarry, yes, she had her focus that time and bravely fought the burglar. Thankful she was able to get back my laptop. The time she got back the laptop, the impact floored her and that was the time the robber pulled out his knife. She escaped the hit but her wrist turned bluish due to hard grip from that garbage guy. He is more than a garbage, so young to do a crime.

@cacay1 If I was in your niece's situation during that time I could have frozen. That's always my initial reaction. And the trauma is not a joke. I got robbed on my way to work a few years back and it took more than a year before I was able to recover from the trauma.

@GardenGerty, yes, you bet it right. My niece was trembling in fear when we arrived home. She also sobbed and somewhat blamed me and others. We accept our negligence. We were just too excited to go to the sea

@rebelann, There are foods left on the table, he better ate them all rather than to steal my laptop and the piggy bank and other stuffs should my nice hadn't intervene him. It was just so timing that my niece went out from her bedroom to drink cold water, if not the robber will be successful in stealing my laptop and the money 5000 pesos in the piggy bank. That money is save by her for Christmas to buy gifts for her 3 young kids. We need extra careful this time, and people at home promise to be extra careful and not allow that thing to happen again in the future, God forbid.

This story is shocking but it has a good ending. You are absolutely right, the guy had no excuse! He pulled a sharp knife. That means he thought “in advance” BEFORE he invaded your home that if he had to do harm, he was willing and able! There are a lot of people who are hungry and need money! I've been that way myself and I never thought to rob someone else. I know he's a young kid but he gets no mercy from me. Your niece could have been killed.

@cmoneyspinner, yes, true, thankful she had presence of mind that time. The knife was confiscated by the police as proof and my brother in law already blottered and filed the case. If we won't file a case, the robber might be released and may do another crime that may be heinous. He better be remorseful , but not meaning he is used to this kind of act. He should be detained and his previous records were checked ( fact check) about this young guy. He might have a pending case in other places. I will tell you here about the update of this culprit. Thanks so much for your nice thought and share.

@Shiva49, thanks Shiva, yes you are right, we ought to have locked the door and the main gate. We are partly to be blamed on this matter. It was not our intention, we just forgot. We promised not to do the same mistake again in the future.

@dya80dya, So scary indeed, the guy is still in jail and we filed his case so he will know that he did a crime. If we won't file a case, he will be released in jail and might do crimes again in the neighborhood or in other place should he ant to escape.
