Hubs, our older son, and I fell in love with the foundation of this house during a walk we took when visiting the family last May. Our son took a photo of what’s been completed so far. It overlooks a river in the backyard.
We LOVE it!
As a result, our son has been looking at new houses in his area of New Jersey and found a beauty. Unfortunately, the taxes are a whopping $50,000 a year. Nevermind!
The Ice Princess prefers to live in Manhattan only because she can tell people she’s from there. What a little stinker!
Meanwhile, next August they have to decide whether to continue to live in New Jersey or return to their co-op in Manhattan.
Tough decisions.

I’m from Manhattan. According to the mileage calculator, I’m 750 miles from Manhattan! (I’m actually closer to Manhattan, Kansas!)
$50K a year? Dang, what….oh, yeah, they have mobsters to pay. And people in the mafia, too, not just the politicians.

One never knows what the 'market' will be like next year--now it seems like a sellers market but I don't think that will last.
We used to have a 'summer home' in Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey--I don't know what my dad eventually sold it for but the Lake became a 'suburb' for Manhattan commuters and he made a good amount of money!

It’s a seller’s market now for sure. It fluctuates as you know.
I know where Lake Hiawatha is. Morris County I believe and not far from Manhattan. Your father must have made a killing!
My son is in Ridgewood in Bergen County. 26 minutes to Manhattan by car, yet far enough away.

The house looks so big like a mansion
I hope they will decide on what is best for them

@sjvg1976 He May or may not buy a new house, but he shouldn’t. He’s leasing his co-op in Manhattan, but next August he won’t be able to. There’s a three year maximum lease clause in his building. So he would have to either sell it or move back to Manhattan. Huge decision. He loves New Jersey!

Those of us who are from Chicago are snobs about it. Many say they're from "Chicago" but are actually from Downer's Grove, Skokie, Evanston (where I was actually born), Aurora (famously, thanks to Wayne's World). (nose up in air emoji)

That looks like it will be a beautiful home when it's all finished. Moving is a tough choice - I hope they find the best option

@DianneN Oh yes, I wonder what they'll do with that bay window....
Well a year isn't a bad amount of time to make up a person's mind, but still it's a huge choice

Isn’t it gorgeous? I’d love to check out the inside when it’s completed. I’m sure the taxes on this house would be much more than the house my son was looking into.
She’s a pip alright! lol
Sigh…. We will know what happens by next August. Either sell their co-op or live in it. They can’t lease it for more than three years.

This house is being built by its owners. Not for sale. My son has been looking at a different house, but that is a stretch for him.
He has a nice large house right now which he should stay in until he decides whether or not he wants to move back to Manhattan next year or sell his co-op and live in New Jersey. It’s a huge decision for his wife and him. Time will tell.

@DianneN Thanks I think I misunderstood it, sorry.
As is said, whatever floats our boats. My son has brought a centrally located apartment in London just opposite a tube station. We are happy for him. I recall thirty years ago buying an apartment to call it my own.

So glad to hear the happy timber in your voice!!!!!!!
that does sound like an interesting decision. Kids are funny when asked. Ours, (all born in Ohio) hated leaving Ohio but wanted to leave Indiana the minute we moved there!
