I am being held hostage by Microsoft

As of today (actually, as of a few days ago) I cannot edit my own work on Microsoft Word. Therefore I cannot work on the book I am writing. I checked my PayPal account and my automatic payments to Microsoft are up-to-date. So they are charging me for services they are not providing. Because Microsoft is essentially a monopoly I cannot choose an alternate provider. Attempts to reach Microsoft have proven futile. I may have to buy an old Smith-Cornona to finish my book. What would you do in my situation? I want to finish my book before I am dead and gone.

I do hope you can find a way out of this situation. Sorry, no suggestions I can come up with.

I hereby deny you permission to die before me. After me what happens, I cannot be held responsible.

I bought the Microsoft Office Suite outright and don't have to worry about payments. It's difficult to reach Microsoft. Have you tried:
Contact Microsoft Support. Find solutions to common problems, or get help from a support agent.

I use Libreoffice ( Open-source, lots of non-paid support worldwide, free.
