As some of you know I use pictures from old magazines in my art, and today I found about 20 old magazines. Most of them are from the 30s and the 40s, and a few of them are from the 60s. I found several pictures for my art, and I also enjoyed reading some of the articles and stories.
One of the stories was called "Danish schools in the year 2000" It was written in the 30s, and it was pretty entertaining. They didn't include things like computers in the story, and some of the other ideas were too optimistic like the things about ultra fast transportation between the US and Europe. They mentioned that a flight from the US to Europe would take about 10 minutes in the year 2000
In one of the magazines from the 60s there was a contest. The prizes were divided in groups. "Dad" was able to choose from of a list of prizes and "mom" had a different list to choose from. "Mom's" prizes were : a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, a stove, a fridge, a freezer and a sewing machine. "Dad" was able to choose between a small boat, a cassette player, a TV, a camera, a toolbox and some wine. In other words the lists reflect the gender roles at that time.
I read the list aloud to my husband and he laughed and said: "It is too bad that they don't have that kind of contests anymore. I would get all the interesting things and you would only get household appliances" I am glad that things are different now
The photo is from one of the magazines. According to the ad this dessert is so easy to make that even a child can do it.

Those are some fascinating articles from yesteryears and it would be interesting to read them now. What kind of art you do with these old magazine pictures? I would like to see them

Me too. I like old things. Some of the magazines aren't in good condition and I have to be careful when I read them. I try to avoid the ones that are very dusty because they make me cough a lot.

I love magazines ... maybe too much and I have some I can't bring myself to get rid of... One is 1950 and a little girl colored in it. I wonder about her and who she was every time I open that magazine

I would also wonder who the girl was. My mom has a magazine from 1948. She found it in my great-grandfather's attic and she decided to keep it because it was from the month she was born.

I like to read old magazines or newspapers to see how the life style was different back then to how it is today.

Me too. It is interesting to compare the things from old magazines to the way things are today.

@Porcospino You're right. Those antique photos are no longer existing but they could be kept in the archive for historical purposes.
