Disaster for Afghanistan with the US withdrawing its troops

With the Taliban waiting at the doors of Afghanistan capital Kabul after capturing almost the entire nation with its stunning advances, former US President Donald Trump has hit out at his successor Joe Biden and also said “miss me yet?” The Taliban rapidly gaining control in Afghanistan has caused major embarrassment for President Joe Biden, who says he only stuck with the Trump administration’s plans on ending the war and withdrawing US troops. Twenty years of investment that cost $2 trillion and nearly 2,500 US lives is on the brink of complete disintegration within weeks as the Taliban seized Kandahar, Herat and is now dangerously close to Kabul. Don't know what the future will be for Afghanistan

People in other countries always gripe that the US in interfering where we don't belong but when our troops are withdrawn the people blame the US for "letting things happen". I'm tired of that. It's past time for our troops to withdraw and stop being killed. Let other countries police the bad people for a change.

@S4mmyboy The Afghanistani people should take care of their problems themselves instead of depending on others to fix the problems for them. We've spent way too much for them. And idiot Trump can kiss us where the sun doesn't shine.

Yes I understand that..... Everything has merits and demerits. ..i fully concur with you in this regard. But before the US it was USSR who were unsuccessful in their mission. Atleast the US managed to nab Osama. No complaints about US.. They did their best... But Afghanistan couldn't manage to control it on its own

Well, first thing first, they had to go there years ago to avoid that Russian gained a base on that hot area of the world. That was done, there is nothing more they can do. The population had 20 years to learn to defend themselves, Americans cannot be the gendarmes of the world.

@S4mmyboy I feel pity too for the population, their President already left the country, is this his support to the population. Those who govern those countries are disgusting.

I am not sure that you are really understanding what is happening. It is a result of the agreement of Doha signed in 2020 between the USA and the Talibans and agreed by the UN security council. The US agreed to not use force in Afghanistan and to not interact later in internal policy of Afghanistan ; the Talibans agreed to fight against any enemy threatening US or its allies security in Afghanistan and to refuse them visas or possibilities to travel. Basically this agreement gave Afghanistan to Talibans. USA and islamists have not always been enemies, the CIA funded islamist groups to fight against Russians in Afghanistan in the 1980's. Sad to tell, but the Talibans are a better guarantee against the return of Russia in Afghanistan than a democratic government. This is political realism.

@S4mmyboy I guess that women will have no more rights than in Saudi Arabia or any country applying the charia law. I have not seen many Afghans fighting the Talibans, they "conquered" the country in 3 months, meaning that a large part of the population supports them. What they do inside their country is their own business.

@S4mmyboy I agree with @topffer it seems the people of Afghanistan also favor the Taliban so only they were able to fight with US troops. About the situation of women there, they need to fight internally with the Taliban no one can help them in this matter.

Based on the news report that I had seen, there are no significant changes for Afghanistan after the disruption from US. The Afghanistan Government and the Taliban are working on a peaceful transition of power. So technically all the efforts that was been made by US went into waste.

The best way should be for their people to do their part. If their culture is too enshrined away from democracy and women's liberation, there is little what others can do. I recall my visits to Vietnam, Cambodia, and their past and outlook cast a long shadow on their willingness to change. Ultimately it is from the frying pan to the fire for the common folk.

Future of Afghanistan will be dark as everyone know it. There will be the rule of talibanis like it used to be in the past. It's sad that people of the country will be deprived of the things which people of other countries do but are in the don'ts list of talibanis.
