I've Been OBSESSED With The Handmaid's Tale!

When The Handmaid's Tale first came out I didn't have Hulu so I didn't watch it from the start. Actually, even after I got Hulu I didn't get around to watching it for some reason until about two weeks ago. Now I'm all caught up with the first four seasons. Talk about binge-watching! This show is truly addictive not to mention dark and disturbing. Actually, I don't think I'd have found it so disturbing if I'd watched when it first began but for some reason watching it now, in today's political climate, I'm finding way too many parallels to the real life crisis we may find ourselves in if things continue as they're going. Anyway, I don't really mean to turn this into a political discussion but I guess everything's political, especially these days. Whatever, I really love this show and I'm going to be going through some major withdrawal since season 5 won't be coming out for at least a year, possibly more, due to all the delays because of the pandemic. The acting is superb. I've always liked Elisabeth Moss ever since Mad Men and then Top of the Lake but she's truly outdone herself so far in this show. The rest of the cast is right up there with her! It's something how some of the characters seem evil one minute and then at least halfway human the next. I really like Lawrence. Bradley Whitford, who I've also always liked a lot, really brings him to life. He's a basically decent man who sometimes struggles with right and wrong if that makes any sense. I'm just dying to know what will come next. I don't want to give away too much because I don't know if anyone reading this is watching but hasn't gotten caught up yet but I'll just say the season 4 finale was one for the ages. Anyone else watching?

It's really great. It wasn't quite what I expected somehow.

@arunima25 When I first heard about before i had Hulu so I couldn't watch it then I had an idea it was rather dark and could have some parallels to what's actually happening in America right now. AFTER watching it I'm terrified. I'm planning on writing more on tis in another discussion very soon but let's just way things aren't looking good for women's rights right now and someone in Texas, I believe it was the governor, actually referred to women as "hosts".

It's very good, quite engrossing and addictive but also quite dark. It would be horrible to live in a place like what's depicted on the series.

I've been telling myself to start watching it since it first came out but now I'm torn between watching the series and reading the books first. Still can't decide!

I have enjoyed all 4 seasons. After the first season I reread the book.

How closely does the series follow the book? I understand they already have plans for a spin-off based on the second book.

@paigea I really can't wait for the next season to come out. That's the problem when you binge a series; in my case I watched the whole thing in a matter of days and now I'm all caught up and can't wait to see what happens next.

@anniepa The first season follows the book. I think the rest was written for TV
